Drug trader killed in Thakurgaon

A alleged drug trader Mobarak Hossain alias Kutti, 40, son of let Shafir Uddin, of chit chilarong village in sadar upazila of Thakurgaon district was killed in a so-called gunfight with Police members at Pacchim Begunbari village in Sadar upazila around 3:05am. Police also recovered bullet and local made weapons from the spot. Abdul Latif Mia, officer-in-charge of Thakurgaon Sadar police station confirm the matter.

Training for women begins in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA: A three-month long training for women has begun at the training centre of Sinnomul Mohila Samity (SMS) of the town here on Wednesday morning. An inaugural session organised by SMS was also held under Empowering Ultra Poor Women through Developing Para Vet project funded by Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, office sources said. Additional deputy commissioner (General) Muhammad Mizanur Rahman addressed the function as the chief guest and District Livestock Officer Dr Abdul Latif was present at the event as special guest. With executive director of SMS Murshidur Rahman Khan in the chair, the inaugural session was also addressed, among others, by assistant director ABM Masudunnabi Lipon and training facilitator Dr Rehena Begum. Shamsul Alam said the project will be implemented by SMS at 13 unions of Sadar upazila for the term of three years and a number of women would be imparted free training here to make them para veterinarian.After ending the training, the successful women would start work at their respective unions as para veterinarian and be able to earn economical profit, he added. In this way, their poverty like situation would be removed through engaging in income generating activity and consequently, they would be self- dependent gradually, he further added.The chief guest asked the trainees to be serious and to complete it successfully.He also advised them to apply the knowledge acquired from the training in field level practically to change their lots economically, he added.A total of 26 youth women from 13 unions of Sadar upazila are taking part in the training, reports BSS.

Youth held with pistol, ammo in Jashore

JASHORE: Police in a drive arrested a man along with a foreign made pistol and one round of bullet from Navaran-Satkhira intersection in Sharsha upazila early Friday.
The arrestee was identified as Abdul Rahman alias Bappi, 25, son of Joynal of Buruz-Bagan village in the upazila. Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a drive in the area and arrested Bappi and recovered the pistol and bullet from his possession around 12 am, said Tasmim Alam, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Sharsha Police Station.Later, a court here sent Bappi to jail after being produced before it on Friday noon, the OC added, reports UNB.

10 drug traders jailed in Cumilla  

CUMILLA: A mobile court here on Saturday sentenced 10 drug traders to different terms of imprisonment in the city and Chandiana upazila. A team of Kotwali Police in a drive arrested Pakhi Begum, 35, LitonMiah, 40, Selim, 38, Asma Begum, 55, Aradhan Begum, 55 and Sayed, 30 from different dens of drug traders in the city early in the morning.Later, a mobile court sentenced them to different jail term. Besides, four drug traders- Dulal Hossain, 38, Omar Faruk, 30, Mahamudul Hasan, 38 and Foyez, 25- were sentenced to different terms of jail by a mobile court in Chandina upazila. Meanwhile, a team of police arrested female drug trader Ruby Akhter, 45, from Muradnagar upazila, reports UNB.
