Tk 38 lakh smuggled goods seized in Lalmonirhat
RANGPUR: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), in a series of raid in the last 10 days, have seized huge smuggled goods worth Taka 38.14-lakh and arrested eight suspected smugglers from different frontiers of Lalmonirhat district. BGB sources said Lalmonirhat 15 BGB battalion conducted the raids from May 11 to 21 last. Later, the seized smuggled goods were deposited with the customs authorities and arrested persons handed over to the respective police stations after filing cases against them. The seized goods included 1,764 bottles of phensidyl, 370 bottles of foreign wine, 1,042 kg ganja, six packets of paddy seed, 12 motorcycles, 140 packets of ‘Mehedi’, 13 bicycles, seven mobile phone sets, 15 SIM cards, seven cows, 112 kg cumin, 50 bottles of Scup syrup, 33 packets of horlics, 50 bottles of pesticides, 14,300 mini packs of ‘Naboratna Oil’, 4,850 mini tea packets, one horse, 675 kg tobacco, 50 kg sugar and 108 sets of playing cards, reports BSS.
Lunching ceremony of JOYFUL project held in Kishoregonj
Dhaka Ahsania Mission has been implementing Joyful Project from Oct 2017 in Kishoregonj. With the financial assistance of Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) the project is being implemented in Itna & Mithamoin Upazila. To ensure quality education for 4440 out of school children & share the project activities with government district administration, the lunching ceremony of JOYFUL project has held a Kishoreganj District Commissioner’s conference room recently. The lunching ceremony was presided over by the Adviser and Director of admin and HR of Dhaka Ahsania Mission Syed Mustafizur Rahman where as the chief guest was Deputy Commissioner of Kishoreganj Sarwar Murshed Chowdhury. Besides, as special guests Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Tarafdar Mohammad Akhter Jamil and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Golam Mohammad Bhuiyanare were present.
18 food factories, shops fined in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: District and upazila administrations and other entities concerned here expedited drives against food adulterations and irregularities in order to protect consumers rights. As part of it, district administration conducted a daylong mobile court in BSCIC industrial estate and found 12 vermicelli factories guilty of manufacturing food items in unhygienic condition. The court fined the factories Taka 1,26,800 and realized the fine instantly. Additional District Magistrate Subrata Paul led the mobile court. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdullah Al Mahmud and Executive Magistrate Zahid Hassan Milky conducted a mobile court at Baneswar Bazar under Puthiya Upazila and fined two hotel and restaurants Taka 10,000 as those were found guilty of manufacturing, possessing and selling food items in unhygienic atmosphere. Bagha Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shamim Reja fined four sweetmeat stores Taka 7,500 after conducting a mobile court at Bagha Bazar area on Monday afternoon, reports BSS.
‘Consumption of zinc-enriched rice meets nutrition’
PANCHAGARH: Agriculturists at a crop cutting ceremony have laid emphasis on enhancing cultivation and regular consumption of zinc- enriched rice to meet nutrition and increase disease resistant capacities of common people. “Each kilogram of BRRI dhan74 rice contains 24.2 milligram zinc and 8.3 percent protein, consumption of which meets micro-nutritional demand of common people,” said Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) Agriculturist Md Shamsul Haque. Haque was addressing the ceremony arranged on demonstration plot of BRRI dhan74 rice of farmer Asir Uddin at village Sarderpara under Sadar upazila on Sunday afternoon as the chief guest, a press release said yesterday, reports BSS.
The DAE in association with HarvestPlus Bangladesh and RDRS Bangladesh organised the function to demonstrate farming technology of BRRI dhan74 rice and harvest the crop, a press release said yesterday.
