BRUR launches e-tendering process
RANGPUR: Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) has launched the e-tendering process to ensure complete transparency in all sorts of the procurement and purchases of the university. Vice-chancellor (VC) of the university Professor Dr. Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah formally launched the process in a simple ceremony held at his office last night,” said a press release yesterday. On the occasion, the VC also approved a proposal to officially go to the e- tendering process for purchasing computers and accessories for different departments and offices of the institution from the varsity’s e-GP website.
Bangabandhu gold medals awarded in Narayanganj
NARAYANGANJ: Speakers at a discussion here yesterday paid glowing tributes to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and urged the people to carry forward the ideals of the great leader to make the country “Sonar Bangla”. Narayanganj Rifle Club organized the event to award Bangabandhu Gold Medal among successful participants in music, recitation and painting competitions in celebration of 99th Birthday of Bangabandhu and National Day 2018 on the club premises. Presided over by deputy commissioner Rabbi Mia, the programme was addressed by lawmaker of Narayanganj-5, AKM Salim Osman as chief guest, Advocate Hosne-Ara-Bablee MP, former commander of Narayanganj District Muktijoddha Shangshad Mohammad Ali, President of Narayanganj Chamber of Commerce and Industry Khaled Haider Khan Kajol and Literary Secretary of Narayanganj Rifle Club Chandan Shill. A total of 3300 students participated in the competition. Twelve students received first prize of the Bangabandhu Gold Medal, followed by 12 students second prize and 12 students the third prize. Special prizes were awarded to 120 students, reports BSS.
2 held with one lakh US dollars at Benapole
BENAPOLE: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive arrested two people along with one lakh US dollars from Raghunathpur border point in Benapole port area here on Thursday night. The arrestees were identified as Maula Box, 35, son of Musa Mallik of Raghunathpur Purbapara village, and Alamgir Hossain, 40, son of Sabed Ali of Swarbanghuda village. Tipped off, a team of BGB-49 conducted a drive in the area and arrested Maula and Alamgir along with the US dollats while passing by Raghunathpur Swarbanghuda Government Primary School around 11:30 PM, said Commanding officer of BGB-49 Lt Col Mohammad Ariful. The arrestees were handed over to Bernapole Police Station, reports UNB.
24 gold bars seized at Benapole
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized 24 gold bars, weighing 2.7 kgs, from Ghiba in Benapole port area here on Thursday night. Acting on information, a team of BGB-49 conducted a drive in the area and recovered 24 gold bars, wrapped in a plastic paper, around 10:30 am, said Commanding officer of BGB-49 Lt Col Mohammad Ariful. The market value of the gold bars is Tk 84 lakh. The seized gold was deposited to Benapole Port Police Station, reports UNB..
5 ‘muggers’ held with Army man’s looted money in Sylhet
SYLHET: Police have arrested five suspected muggers along with money looted from an Army man from Bandar Bazar, Lakhaura and Mohammadpur areas of the city. The arrestees are Nasir Uddin, 35, Shafiqul Islam, 33, Mohammad Rahel, 27, Md Muktar Hossain, 35, and Md Dilawar Hossain, 35. Officer-in-charge of ShahparanPolice Station Akhtar Hossain said the snatchers obstructed Army Lance Corporal Md Moinul Islam at Muradpur in the city on May 7while he was returning home after withdrawing money from a bank. They took away Tk 1.9 lakh from Moinul at gunpoint and fled. Police arrested the muggers in a drive conducted in the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, the OC said, adding they also recovered Tk 27,500 from their possession, reports UNB.
