Touchstone statue recovered in Naogaon

 Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered two parts of a touchstone statue from Jibar area in Sapahar upazila Sunday night. Tipped-off, a team of BGB led by Major Iqbal Hossain, deputy commander of BGB battalion-14, conducted a drive in the area and recovered the two parts of the statue weighing 46 kg from a rickshaw van around 11:00 pm. However, none was arrested in this connection. BGB battalion-14 commander Lt Col Rafiqul Hasan confirmed the recovery. A case was filed in this connection with Sapahar Police Station.

Jamaat leader held in Satkhira

SATKHIRA: Police arrested local Jamaat leader and Kaliganj upazila vice-chairman Abdur Rauf from Nalta area of the upazila on Monday morning. Kaliganj Police Station officer-in-charge Imdadul Haque Sheikh said a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 10:00 am and arrested Abdur Rauf, also an assistant professor of Rokeya Munsur Degree College. Police arrested him in connection with several violence cases, the OC added, reports UNB.

Smuggled goods worth Tk 27 lakh seized in Benapole

BENAPOLE: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized huge Indian goods worth about Tk 27 lakh from Amrakhali and Sadipur border points here on Sunday night. A BGB patrol team conducted anti-smuggling drives in Amrakhali and Sadipur areas on Sunday night and seized the Indian goods, said. Mohammad Liakat Ali, deputy commanding officer of BGB Battalion-26. The seized goods include huge quantities of Indian imitation ornaments, current net, cosmetics, clothes and liquor. None was arrested in this connection. The seized goods were deposited to the customs godown and Benapole Police Station, reports UNB.

Body recovered in Chitalmari

An unidentified dead body of a young man was recovered from a canal in the village Sreeramkathi under Chitalmari Upazila in the district on Saturday, according to a report received here. It is learnt from the police that some local people of the village found a dead body floating in the canal near a bridge and informed the police of the matter. Police of Chitalmari PS rushed to the spot, recovered the dead body and sent the same to Bagerhat morgue for autopsy.

Farmer dies from electrocution in Panchagarh

PANCHAGARH: A farmer died from electrocution at Jamadarpara village in Boda upazila on Wednesday morning. The deceased was identified as Kawsar Ali,25, a resident of the same village. Locals said Kawsar came in contact with a snapped live electric wire lying under water while he was working in his crop field in the morning, leaving him dead on the spot, reports UNB.
