Rabindranath Tagore’s 157th birth anniv observed

The great poet Rabindranath Tagore’s 157th birth anniversary was observed in Kishoreganj district on Tuesday. Marking the Day, many socio-cultural organizations including Kishoreganj District Administration arranged a colourfull rally, discussion, drama, postering and cultural funciton on the day. Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury presided over the discussion. It was addressed among others by ADC (Gen ) Torafder Md. Akhter Jamil, ADC (Education & ICT) & D.S Golam Md. Bhuiyan, Professor Pranash Kumar Chowdhury, District Press Club President Mostafa Kamal, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito, Vetirm Freedom Fighter Md. Asad Ullah, Megistrate Aklima Begum, Assistant Professor Samiul Hoque Mollah and Sadar UNO Abdullah-al-Masud. A cultural function held at Local Art Council hall on Tuesday night.

Dr Wazed’s 9th death annive observed

The ninth death anniversary of renowned nuclear scientist and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s husband Dr M A Wazed Miah was observed here in befitting manner yesterday . The Rangpur district and Pirganj upazila administrations, Dr Wazed Smriti Sangsad (DWSS), Dr Wazed Foundation, Awami League (AL) and family of Dr Wazed and other organisations are observing the death anniversary through various programmes. The programmes include placing of wreaths at the grave of Dr Wazed in village Laldighee Fatehpur under Pirganj upazila, offering Fateha, Milad mahfil, ‘Ziayarat’, distribution of foods to the poor and memorial discussions. Govern officials, local public representatives and leaders of different organisations placed wreaths at the grave of the renowned nuclear scientist and offered Fateha, ‘Ziayarat’ and special munajats there this morning. Leaders and representatives of Pirganj upazila AL, Dr Wazed Foundation, Begum Rokeya University and family members of Dr Wazed placed wreaths at his grave in the morning as part of daylong programmes to observe the death anniversary. The district administration organised a memorial discussion on the life and works of Dr Wazed at conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in the city in the morning.

12 pieces of gold bars seized in Benapole

JASHORE : Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in a drive seized 12 pieces of gold bars, weighing 1.4 kg, from Khalshi Bat-Tala Bazar in Putkhali bordering area of Benapole on Wednesday morning.On a tip-off, a BGB team conducted a drive in the area and seized the gold bars worth about Taka 58.80 lakh in an abandoned condition, said Lieutenant Colonel Tariqul Hakim, commanding officer of BGB-21.No one was arrested in this connection as the smugglers managed to flee the scene, he said.Later, the seized gold bars were deposited to Benapole Customs House, reports BSS.

Coordinated efforts to attain SDGs underscored

RAJSHAHI: Experts and researchers here emphasized the need for taking concerted efforts of all government and non-government organisations for achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and overall development of the nation. They mentioned that partnership and collaboration among concerned authorities could also make easier to extract resources needed for implementing the SDGs. To this end, sustainable coordinated efforts are the demand of the time. The observations came at a daylong divisional workshop titled “Implementing SDGs in Bangladesh: From Plan to Action” in Rajshahi city yesterday. Department of Development Studies (DDS) in Dhaka University and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) jointly organized the workshop. Former Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Atiur Rahman and Chairman of DDS Professor Dr Abu Eusuf addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with Nur-Ur-Rahman, Commissioner of Rajshahi Division, in the chair.
