22 kg hemp seized, 4 arrested in Sylhet

 Some 22 Kgs hemp (ganja) have been seized and four persons were arrested in two massive campaign launched by Gowainghat Police and Rapid Action Batallion (RAB)-9 Sylhet separately yesterday. A contingent of detective police launched a vigorous campaign in front of a community centre and seized 9 kgs of hemp and arrested three persons including Abdus Shahid (42) , s/o late Abdul Matlib of Alt-Hunda Village under Chunarughat Upazila. Shahid (40) s/o late Uziir Miah Village Ratanpur under Bannichong Upazila and Md Royes Ali , s/o Ustar Ali of Village Botertol in Companigonj Upazila in Sylhet. In another tip-off Sylhet Rapid Action Batallion arrested one person, Shohag Miah Son Sheik Forid Miah of Village Wustorgergar from south surma area in Sylhet City at around 10-30 am yesterday RAB -9 Senior Assistant Director Md Moniruzzan contimed arrest and recovery of 13 Kgs hemp from Shohag’s possession.
3 held with Yaba pills in Cumilla
CUMILLA: Members of highway police in a drive arrested three alleged drug peddlers along with 40,000 pieces of Yaba pills and 100 bottles of phensidyl syrup from Kalakachua in Burichang upazila on Tuesday morning. The arrestees were identified as Nasir Uddin of Mirsharai upazila in Chattogram district, Alauddin Mia of Fulpaija in Bhola district and Babu Mia of Mathbaria in Pirojpur district. Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Moynamati Highway Police Outpost, said acting on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a drive and intercepted a Dhaka bound passenger bus from Cox’s Bazar and recovered the contraband drugs. Police arrested the bus driver and the two helpers for their involvement with the drug peddling. A case was filed with Burichang Police Station in this connection, the OC said, reports UNB.
Properties worth Tk 50 lakh gutted in Kachua

Properties worth Tk.50 lakh were gutted when a devastating fire broke out in the village Tengrakhali under Kachua Upazila in Bagerhat district on Thursday morning. It is learnt from the locals that in the morning at 10 am the dwelling house belonging to one Solaiman Master of the village caught fire from an electricity short circuit and within a short time a gas cylinder was blasted in the house. As a result the fire went out of control and spread to its adjacent dwelling houses. On seeing the flame of fire villagers rushed to the spot. But for fear of blasting the gas cylinder in the house they did not any initiative to extinguish the fire. Being informed of the matter a fire service unit rushed to the place of occurrence from Bagerhat district town. But before its arrival all the four dwelling houses with their all belongings including cash Taka, gold ornaments, food grains, valuable documents etc. were burnt to ashes.
Crops harvesting continues on riverbed in Narsingdi
NARSINGDI: Harvesting of different crops cultivated on the dried-up riverbeds and char lands on the Meghna and other rivers basin of Narsingdi district continues in full swing with excellent yield rate this season. Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) official said the farmers have already completed harvesting mustard, wheat, groundnut and pumpkin and got bumper output while harvest of the other crops continues on these lands. Local Agriculture official said the char and riverside people have brought around 5,000 hectares of land under various crop cultivation in the district this season. The farmers have mostly cultivated Boro paddy, Onion, Chili, Maize, Wheat, Vegetables, Pumpkin, Groundnut, potato, Sweet potato, Kawn, Pulses, Till, Tishi, Bangi and other crops on these land, reports BSS.
