Road mishap kills schoolchild

A schoolchild was killed in the spot in a road crash at Khedapara on Rajgonj- Pulerhat Road under Monirampur upazla in Jashore on Saturday morning.
The accident took place at Khedapara as Raihan Hossain, 12, class -VI student of Palli Mangal Secondary School and son of Ismail Hossain of Bashabtapur village fell on the road from his bicycle and a goods laded truck ran over him suddenly killing him on the spot at around 8:15am on Saturday. The student was going to the school at that time. Locals beat Aminur Rahman, driver of the truck soon after the incident. He was rushed to Monirampur Upazila Health Complex with critical condition, assistant sub inspector Abdur Rahman of Monirampur police station.

Properties worth Tk.50 lakh were gutted when a devastating fire broke out in the village Tengrakhali under Kachua Upazila in Bagerhat district on Thursday morning. It is learnt from the locals that in the morning at 10 am the dwelling house belonging to one Solaiman Master of the village caught fire from an electricity short circuit and within a short time a gas cylinder was blasted in the house. As a result the fire went out of control and spread to its adjacent dwelling houses. On seeing the flame of fire villagers rushed to the spot. But for fear of blasting the gas cylinder in the house they did not any initiative to extinguish the fire. Being informed of the matter a fire service unit rushed to the place of occurrence from Bagerhat district town. But before its arrival all the four dwelling houses with their all belongings including cash Taka, gold ornaments, food grains, valuable documents etc. were burnt to ashes.
Three-day child fair ends
MYMENSINGH: A three-day child fair aimed at creating awareness about development of women and children concluded at Begun Bari High School premises here on Sunday. District Information Office (DIO) organised the fair in cooperation with Sadar Upazila Parishad under the project titled communication activities towards development of women and children. On the occasion, a colourful rally, led by DIO Md Muklesur Rahman, was brought out at Begun Bari Bazar this morning participated by the officials, teachers, students, guardians, public representatives and freedom fighters. A discussion meeting was held this noon at the same venue with District Information Officer in the chair. The meeting was addressed, among others, by Director of Narcotic Control Paritush Chandra Kundhu, District Libryan Salah uddin, journalist Imam Uddin Mukta, Head Teacher of Bagum Bari High School Khalequzzaman, Head Teacher of Premier Ideal High School Md Chand Mia and Head teacher of Nasirabad Collegiate School Anwar Hossen. Speakers said social campaign is urgently needed to protect child rights and their protection from all sorts of cruelties and violence. “Present government is committed to establish child rights and women empowerment to ensure progressive society,” they said, adding that the government has been implementing various development programmes in this regards, reports BSS.
SSC examinee ‘commits suicide’
BRAHMANBARIA: A girl who failed in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) Examination allegedly committed suicide by taking poison at Mayrampur village in Bancharampur upazila on Sunday night. The deceased was identified as Mim, 15, daughter of Md Selim Miah and she appeared in the examination from Dhariarchar Haji Omar Ali High School. Nizam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Bancharampur Police Station, said Mim committed suicide at night by taking poison as she could not bear the pain of failure in the examination. On information, police recovered the body, reports UNB.
