Jessore DC, SP visit cobblers’ cluster in Jessore

Dr. Humayun Kabir, Deputy Commissioner, Jessore, Anisur Rahman, SP, Jessore along with Sirajul Haque Manju, chairman, Sharsha upazila council, ATM Shafiqul Alam, UNO, Sharsha and leader of Hindu community on Monday afternoon visited cobblers’ cluster at Bashantapur under Sharsha upazila in Jessore. Miscreants hurled a bomb at the cobblers’ cluster at Bashantapur under Sharsha upazila in Jessore Friday night. Three families of the community came under attack following a feud with a grocer, said police and local sources. Locals and the police said residences of Nandan, Naren and Shiben of Bashantapur cobblers’ cluster were attacked by a number of terrorists over a feud with local grocer Sohrab Hossain at night. A bomb was exploded there during the attack. But none was hurt.
Standing Committees of UPs should be strengthened

Speakers in a dialogue urged that standing committees of Union Parishads (UP) should be strengthened in order to make the UPs effective. The dialogue on ‘Effective role of standing committees in strengthening local government’ was arranged by the Chapainawabganj district unit of Local Government Journalists Forum (LGJF) at the conference room of Chapainawabganj Club on Monday. President of the Chapainawabganj district unit of LGJF Aminul Islam chaired the meeting . Among others, upazila social service officer of Chapainawabganj Sadar Hamidul Islam as chief guest, president of Chapainawabganj Press Club Golam Mostofa Montu as special guest and monitoring and research officer of non-government organization Massline Media Centre (MMC) Sabiha Shabnam Sushoma were present.
6 houses gutted in Bagerhat

Six dwelling houses were gutted by a fire that broke out at Ratarati Colony in Mongla port municipality area on Monday. Sources at Mongla fire service station said the fire originated from a kitchen stove at a house at Ratarati Colony at noon and it soon engulfed the other adjoining houses. On information, a firefighting unit rushed in and doused the blaze after one hour of frantic efforts with the help of the house dwellers. The affected house owners claimed that the extent of losses from the fire could go up to Tk 5 lakh.
5 students held at RU suspecting Shibir

Motihar thana police on Tuesday arrested five students of Rajshahi University (RU) on campus suspecting them as Shibir activists. The arrestees were identified as Hibibur Rahman, a fourth year student of applied mathematics department, Juwel Hasan, a fourth year student of management studies department, Jafrul Islam, a masters’ student of mathematics, Farhad Hossain, a 2nd year student of Islamic history department and Tobarak Hossain who completed his study.
