Two held with 7,000 Yaba pills in Rajshahi

Two alleged drug dealers were arrested with 7,000 pieces of Yaba tablets from Shiroil bus terminal area in the city on early Thursday night. The arrested persons are Shubod Boruya, 28, son of Sharendra Boruya, a resident of Ramu upazila under Cox’s Bazar district and Rubel Ali, 27, son of Shadek Ali, a resident of Bidirpur village under Godagari upazila in Rajshahi district. On secret information, a team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) conducted a drive in the bus terminal area and arrested the duo while they had been transferring Yaba tablets to each other.
Woman held with 9 lakh Indian rupees
CUMILLA: Police arrested a woman and recovered nine lakh Indian rupees from her possession from Pachura Shinduri Bridge area in Burichang Upazila here on Sunday night. The arrestee was identified as Nilufa Begum, 45, wife Khorshed Alam of Pachura village in the upazila.Officer-in-charge of Burichang Police Station, Manoz Kumar De, said police intercepted a CNG-run-auto rickshaw and held Nilufa along with the indian currencies concealed in her waist with paper. A case under Special Power Act was filed in this connection, the OC added, reports UNB.
Private clinic sealed off in Thakurgaon
THAKURGAON: A private clinic was sealed off in Goalpara area of the Thakurgaon municipality on Tuesday for irregularities and fraudulent activities. A mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Abdullah Al Mamun conducted a drive at Rahman Clinic and Diagnostic Centre and seized some documents as well as sealed off the operation theatre and pathology laboratory of the clinic. There have been allegations that the owners of the clinic were involved in conducting clinical activities without any professional physicians and deceived people as well as provide fake documents. The mobile court also fined Tk 5,000 to two ward boys and a manager of the clinic and asked to stop all activities of the clinic until further notice, reports UNB.
Farmer ‘commits suicide’ in Magura  
MAGURA: A farmer allegedly committed suicide by taking poison at Dakhshin Mirzapur village in Sadar upazila on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Tariqul Islam, 45. Quoting family members, Elius Hossain, officer-in-charge of Magura Police Station, said Tariqul, who had been suffering from depression for financial crisis, committed suicide by taking poison at his home. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Magura Sadar Hospital for an autopsy, reports UNB.
4 tourists held for hunting birds in Monpura Island
BHOLA: A mobile court on Saturday arrested four tourists for hunting birds at Monpura Island in the district. Executive Magistrate Abdul Aziz Bhuiyan also fined each of them with Tk 50,000 and sentenced a tourist to six-month jail for carrying hemp. The detainees were identified as Ataul Hossain, 30, Md Mohan Khan, 35, Wahid Alam, 32, and Badal, 30. All of them are hailing from Barisal and Sylhet districts. Monpura Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdul Aziz confirmed the matter, reports UNB.
Beautification works progressing fast in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: Beautification and development works are progressing fast to build modern Ghagot lake aimed at building an attractive district town for the people. According to sources the speedway of the Ghagot river was diverted through loop cutting at David Companypara area of the town in 2002 resulting 4 km-river which was blowing through the middle of the town turned into a dead one, reports BSS.
