Maize Harvesting Field Day held in Fulchhari
GAIBANDHA: A field day on maize harvesting was held at Char Khatiamari under Fazlupur union of Fulchhari upazila in the district on Monday amid participation of farmers and officials. Fulchhari Upazila Agriculture Office arranged the function to motivate the farmers to cultivate the high quality maize on their char lands.Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gautam Chandra Pal attended the function as the chief guest and deputy director of Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) AKM Ruhul Amin and district coordinator of Friendship Abdus Salam were present at the event as special guests. With Upazila Agriculture Officer M. Aasduzzaman in the chair, the function was also addressed, among others, by sub assistant plant protection officer Matlubur Rahman, sub assistant agriculture officer Mizanur Rahman, farmer Abu Sayeed and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman. The speakers in their speeches underscored the need for farming high quality maize on the char lands and nurture it properly to get good production against the cropping.Earlier, DC Gautam Chandra Pal along with agri-officials visited the maize crop fields on char lands, talked to the farmers about the production and the marketing of the crop and witnessed its harvesting process. Talking to the BSS, DD of DAE AKM Ruhul Amin said 4300 hectares of land of Fulchhari upazila were brought under maize farming during the current season, reports BSS.
Bumper chilli production in Jamalpur

Farmers in this district have achieved a bumper production of Balizuri green chilli, a local variety, in the current season. Sources with the Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) said a favourable climatic condition, low labour cost and application of integrated pest management (IPM) method helped the farmers to achieve the bumper yield. Farmer Zahurul Haque of village Shingvanga in Islampur upazila said he cultivated the Balizuri variety on 80 decimals of land and got 27 mound of dried green chilli and sold the produce for Tk 162,000. He earned a net profit of Tk 130,000. Like Zahurul many farmers of the upazila cultivated the crop and made a good profit. The sources said the 7135 hectares of land were brought under chilli cultivation during the current Rabi season in the district. The Balizuri variety was cultivated on 4700 hectares.
515 hats made of artificial hair seized

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered a total of 515 hats made of artificial hair in abandoned condition from no-man’s land near Benapole check post here on Saturday. Being tipped-off, a BGB team conducted a drive in the bordering area around 9am and recovered the hats worth around Tk 13 lakh, said check post camp commander Subedar Abdul Wahab. Later, the seized hats were deposit to Benaople Customs Department, he said.
4 food shops fined Tk 42,000 in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: Four consumer shops and factories were fined Taka 42,000 here on Monday for manufacturing and selling unhygienic and sub-standard food items. A team of Department of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted a raid in Rajshahi city area and found Mistanna Bhandar, Bengal Bakery and Pastry Shop, Al Aziz Hotel and Nazrul Biscuit Shop guilty of preparing, possessing and selling food and other consumer items in an unhygienic condition. Subsequently, the team fined the shop owners Tk 42,000 and realized the fine instantly. Hassan Al Maruf, Assistant Director of DNCRP, said such drives against the violations of consumers’ rights will be continued in the days ahead, reports BSS.
