Businessman robbed of Tk2 lakh in Sylhet

Muggers took away Tk2 lakh from a businessman in
front of Majumdari Biman office on the Sylhet Airport Road in the city on Wednesday.
Police said Nazrul Islam withdrew Tk2 lakh from Dargah Gate branch of AB Bank at about 10.00am. When he went to Companiganj by a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, 6/7 muggers on three motorbikes intercepted his vehicle in the area. Later, they frightened him showing a sharp weapon and snatched away the money kept in a bag. A case was filed in this connection.
One killed by lighting strike in Thakurgaon
THAKURGAON: A man was killed by a lighting strike at Gorgoria in Haripur upazila on Tuesday afternoon.The deceased was identified as Belal Hossain, 32, son of Ansar Ali, a resident of Ranishankail upazila in the district. Sources at Haripur Police Station said Belal died on the spot when a thunderbolt struck him in Gorgoria Beel (water-body) in the afternoon, reports UNB.
Farmers’ gathering held in Chapainawabganj

A farmers’ gathering was held at Tikoil village under Nejampur union of Nachole upazila of Chapainawabganj district on Monday afternoon. Non-government organisation Agriculture Sustainable and Socio Economic Development Organisation (ASSEDO) organised the conference under its Promoting Food Security and Livelihoods of Marginalised People of Barind Tract (PFLMB) project following the success of a female farmer in cultivating drought tolerant BRRI-57 variety of paddy. It was held with the chairman of Nejampur UP Abdul Awal in the chair and was addressed by the chairman of Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila unit of Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) Shahjahan Ali as chief guest, Nachole Upazila Agriculture Officer Zahedul Hoque Chowdhury, Executive Director of ASSEDO Agriculturist Rabiul Alam, Assistant Professor of Exim Bank Agriculture University Shaheb Ali and farmers Purnima Barmon, Surnima Barmon and Sagori Barmon.
Construction worker electrocuted in Barisal

A construction worker identified as Shamim, 26, died after electrocuted during working on an under-construction building at Port Road area of the city on Tuesday afternoon. Malek Haoladar, a businessman of the area, said Shamim was electrocuted when he was working with iron bars at the construction site adjacent with a high voltage electricity supply pole and the iron bars came in touch with the electricity supply lines. Shamim was decaled as dead by the attending physician after the locals brought him to Barisal Sher-e- Bangla Medical College Hospital. Shakhawat Hossain, Kotwali police station in charge, said no allegation or case was lodged in this connection till this report.
Training for Rana Plaza victims starts

A 5-days Entrepreneur Development Training has been started with the Rana Plaza disaster victims yesterday (October 15 2014) at CCDB-HOPE Foundation Training Center, Bariopara, Savar. The subject of this training is Entrepreneur Development Training and Business Development Services for Rana Plaza Victims. The methodology of the training is Competency Based Economics through Formation of Enterprise (SEFE). Twenty-five victims of the Rana Plaza have been participated in this training.
