BGB detained two alleged arms traders with a foreign made pistol, three rounds of bullet and a magazine from Sonamasjid area under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Wednesday evening.The arrested persons have been identified as Sumon Ali, 32, son of Elias Mia of Chakdoulatpur and Mehedi Hasan, 25, son of Al Amin of Lagadpara both under Shibganj municipality of the district.Additional director of 9 BGB battalion Sheikh Mohammad Mizanur Rahman said, acting on secret information that two persons came to Darasbari Mosque area near Sonamasjid with arms and ammunition, a patrol team of BGB from Sonamasjid Border Out Post (BOP) raided the area at around 4-45 pm. At the presence of the BGB jawans, the locals tried to hold them. At this, the arms traders tried to flee by firing a bullet. Later with the help of the locals BGB managed to arrest them with the arms and ammunition.
Traditional boat race held on Sandhaya River in Barisal

On the occasion of Laxmi Puja, the 154 years old traditional ‘Laxmi Puja Nauka Baich’ (Boat-Race) held on the river Sandhaya at Harta in Uzirpur upazila of Barisal district to patronize indigenous sports and rural traditional regional culture on Tuesday . The ‘Laxmi Puja Nouka Baich’ was organized by Harta Bazaar Committee to celebrate the Puja on Tuesday afternoon, said Dr. Harendranath Roy, Harta UP chairman and president of the arrangement committee and ceremony.Thousands of people including high officials of upazila and district administration, local government representatives enjoyed the race and encouraged the participant teams crowding on both sides of the river on boat racing route.The 2 kilometers long Nouka Baich since 1860 started from Harta old union parishad at 4:00 pm and ended at Harta Bazaar Ghat at 5:00 pm Tuesday.
Students’ reunion held at Gokul High School

A re-union of Gokul Taslim Uddin High School 1992 SSC batch students was held at the school auditorium on October 07, Tuesday after next day of Eid-ul-Azha. Over hundred students, their wives and their children were attainted in the day-long programme. All former teachers with head master of that time were also joined and get warm reception from the students and their families in the meeting. The reunion programme started by releasing balloons on 9.30am at the school play ground. Later, a colourful Rally starts and it was moving at least 10 villages around the school then ended at the school to sit all family members on each Rickshaw van led by Md Samsul Haque, former head master of that time.
