Memorial meet on journalist Rafik held

 Juri Press Club arranged a memorial meeting on renowned journalist Rafik Ahmed, former vice-president of Kulaura Press Club at Juri Sishu Park recently. 2 RU teachers get dean’s award

Two teachers of Rajshahi University have received dean’s award on Wednesday for their outstanding contribution in research activities. The awardees are–Prof Saleh Hasan Naqib of physics department and Professor Hasan Ahmad of Chemistry Department. RU VC Prof M Abudus Sobhan handed over the awards among the awardees as addressing as chief guest at an award giving ceremony held at the conference room of the faculty. Prof Saleh Hasan Naqib carried out research on the physical and mathematical sciences while Professor Hasan Ahmad on chemical and biochemistry sciences.Besides, a total of nineteen students of different departments under the faculty were also received crests and certificates for their outstanding results in Bsc honours examinations. Among others, RU pro-VC Prof Ananda Kumar Saha and treasurer AKM Mostafizur Rahman addressed the award giving ceremony as special guests with the faculty dean Professor Md Akhter Farooque in the chair.
Illegal cutting of old banyan tree at Bhangura alleged

There has been allegations of cutting an old Banyan tree from the side of the road at Choubariya South para Mohalla of Bhangura municipality in Pabna on Wednesday. There was anguish among the people in the area. The tree adjacent to the Bhangura-Vabanipur road of the upazila was giving shade to the pedestrians for long time. Motiur Rahman Biswas of the Mohalla cut that big banyan tree. Villagers claimed that the banyan tree was on government property. Local people complained that the tree was cut illegally with the help of the Land office. Motiur Rahman Biswas acknowledged the cutting of tree and said that it had grown up on my property. Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mahfuza Sultana confirmed the incident and said that the Banyan tree was not found on the Govt. property according to the survey.
