Attempt to commit dacoity in house foiled

 An attempt to commit a dacoity in the house of Shekhar Mondol, a school teacher of village Char Khalisakhali within Charbaniari Union Parishad under Chitalmari Upazila in the district on Wednesday at night was foiled in the face of villagers’ resistance. It is learnt from the locals that at the night at 1-30 am a gang of armed dacoits, 10/12 in number, raided the house and tried to break the door with the help of a big trunk of a tree. At this the inmates of the house woke up and informed the villagers of the matter over mobile. The villagers rushed to the spot and chased the dacoits. Then the dacoits tried to disperse the villagers by blasting a bomb, but in vein. In the face of the resistance of the villagers the dacoits fled away leaving a live bomb there. This created a great panic among the villagers.Police of Chitalmari PS visited the place of occurrence.
Theft committed in 2 houses in Chitalmari
Dearing theft was committed in the 2 houses in the village Charbaniary Uttarpara under Chitalmari Upazila in the district on Wednesday night. It is learnt from Ashim Kirtonia, Coordinator of Chitalmari Upazila ‘Ekti Bari Ekti Khamar Project’ that at the night a number of thieves entered his village house at Charbaniari by breaking open its fencing and decamped with a lap top worth Tk.50 thousand and some imitation ornaments. At the same night the thieves entered the house of his cousin Tushar Kanti Kirtonia of the same village by breaking open the fencing and fled away with cash Tk.13 thousand, a mobile set and two small gold ornaments. Police of Chitalmari PS were informed of the matter.
‘Terrorist’ held with pistol in Benapole

 Police arrested an alleged terrorist along with a pistol and bullets at Voberber village in Benapol town on Monday night. The arrestee was identified as Liton Hossain, son of Sahjahan of the same district. Apurba Hasan, officer-in-charge of Benapol Port Police Station, said tipped off, a police team launched a drive at the village and arrested Liton along with one pistol, a knife and two rounds of bullet. Liton is accused in 10 cases, including for killing and mugging, added the OC.
Doping gangs active ahead of Eid-ul-Azha

Doping gangs are active on Sylhet South Surma area ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. Organised gangs, targeting long route passengers of both buses and trains, rob people and the victims often die from poisonous food supplied to them by the gangs, sources said. Doping party members usually feed passengers poisonous drink or food stuff that may cause death of people. At least four to six members take part in such operation. About 8 to 10 groups are active on Sylhet South Surma area. Members of the groups stay at Surma Point, Court point, Bandarbazar, Kodomtaly, Dorghagate and Amborkhana Point. They also have connection with a section of conductors of buses. After getting green signal, members of doping gang get into a bus. Conductors help the gang members sit beside home bound passengers. Then the organised groups in many ways give passengers food stuff to eat and make them unconscious.
