One injured allegedly by BCL SUST leader

A student of the Food Engineering and Tea Technology Department at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has been severely injured in gunfire allegedly by Chhatra League SUST unit Vice-President Tariqul Islam.The injured student, Abdullah Rony from Gaffargaon upazila of Mymensingh, has been admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College and Hospital for treatment.SUST Assistant Proctor Prof Jahir Uddin Ahmed said the incident occurred at a restaurant adjacent the SUST campus at around 10 pm on Tuesday. He added that tensions were mounting between different factions of Chhatra League on the campus, and additional security forces had been deployed to prevent any untoward situations. According to Chhatra League SUST unit sources, the shooting occurred when two factions of Chhatra League were attempting to establish their supremacy on the campus. Abdullah Rony, who was merely a bystander to the conflict at the restaurant, was caught in the crossfire. Tariqul Islam claimed vice presidents Abu Sayed Akand, Syed Zuem and Joint General Secretary Sajedul Islam Sabuj attacked him and his followers at the restaurant, and he was currently receiving treatment at the hospital.

Press briefing held in Kishoreganj

A press briefing was organised to enable Bangladesh to qualify for the transition from the status of a less developed country. The programme was organized at the Kishoreganj Collectorate Conference on Tuesday. Organized by district information office. District Information Officer Mohammad Shamsul Haque presided over the meeting. Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarwar Murshed Chowdhury was present as the chief guest. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Tarafdar Md. Akhter Jamil, Senior Assistant Commissioner Abu Taher Sayeed, Convener of Kishoreganj Press Club Advocate ABM Lutfar Rashid Rana and Member-secretary Monwar Hossain Rony. The representatives of various print and electornics media were present in the press briefing.

Boy killed in road mishap in Fakirhat

A teen aged boy (17) was killed on the spot when a mechanized van (3wheeler) locally known as Nasiman met an accident in the village Satbaria within Mansha-Bahirdia Union under Fakirhat Upazila in the district on Monday noon, according to a report received here. The ill-fated boy was identified as Asif Shaikh, son of one Saiful Islam Babu of village Bahirdia within the same Union Parishad. It is learnt from the locals that on the day the boy was returning to his village home from Chulkathi bazar area by a van and when the van reached the place of occurrence one of its back wheels was unfastened and it skidded off the road and turned turtle and the boy fell under it. As a result, the boy was fatally injured. He was immediately sent to Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
