16 jailed in Bhola for defying hilsa fishing ban
BHOLA: A mobile court sentenced 16 fishermen to two months’ imprisonment on Sunday night for defying a ban on catching all kinds of fishes. Police and river police, led by upazila administration and fisheries department, conducted separate drives at different points in the Meghna river and held the fishermen along with 5,000 metres current net on charge of catching hilsa defying ban. An two-month ban was imposed by the government on catching all kinds of fishes in 150 kilometers area in the Meghna and Tetulia rivers, aiming to boost hilsa production through ensuring safe spawning and protecting mother hilsa. Besides, a team of Coast Guard South Region in a drive seized different kinds of net, including current net worth of Tk 12 crore, from Ramdaspur area.
Later, a mobile court of executive magistrate and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mridha Md Mozahidul Islam handed down the verdict when they were produced before it around 10pm, reports UNB.

Saidpur Cricket Club became the Champion of Jawadul Haque Foundation Gold Cup Cricket Tournament on Sunday Saidpur Cricket Club achieved the honor by defeating Essex Cricket Club with 46 runs in the Final match at Saidpur Railway Ground. Wife of late Upazila Chairman Jawadul Haque, Asha Siddika presented the award as Chief Guest. Chairman of Saidpur Upazila Moksedul Momin and Awami League Acting President Rafiqul Islam Babu were present as Special Guests. Saidpur Cricket Club won the toss and decided to bat. The 116 run of the left-handed opener Sujon Saidpur Cricket Club scored a total of 216 runs in 20 overs. Sujon was awarded as the Man of the Final and Man of the Tournament of Saidpur Cricket Club. Sabahat Ali Sabbu played his role as the main match referee. The other two umpires are Rezwanul Arif and Ariful Alam Kallol. Reza Al Hasan was the scorer. The Twenty-20 Cricket Tournament was organised by Jawadu Huq Foundation which started on 2 March. A total of 16 teams took part in the tournament.
Expatriate’s wife commits suicide in Sylhet

Expatriate’s wife committed suicide in Bishwanath recently. The deceased is identified as Nur Jahan Siddika Rima wife of a Saudi Expatriate Jalal Hussain of Shaban Tangra Village Alangkari Union of the Bishwanath Upazila in Sylhet District. Police recovered the body and send to Sylhet Osmani Medical Hospital Morgue. It is learned that on Monday, at noon, She Committed suicide by hanging himself with a shilling fan’s arow in his house. He did not wake up at 8am on Monday, The other members of the family called him to wake him up. There was on response to this. After seeing him hanging in his room.SI Mizanur Rahman of Bishwanath police station confirmed the news and said police recovered the body and send to Osmani Medical Morgue for autopsy.

4 shops gutted in Khulna fire
KHULNA: At least four shops were gutted as a fire broke out at a market in Nirala area of the city on Sunday afternoon. The fire originated from an electric short circuit in ‘Sima Store’ and engulfed the adjoining three shops following a gas cylinder blast around 3am, Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said. On information, four firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the flame around 3:30pm.The shop owners claimed the estimated loss due to the fire was worth of Tk 50 lakh, reports UNB.
