Laptops distributed among primary schools in Narsingdi

NARSINGDI: A total of 138 laptops were distributed among 138 primary schools in Sadar upazila recently. State Minister for Water Resources Lt Colonel (Retd) Nazrul Islam Hiro (Birpratik) MP distributed the laptops at a simple function at the upazila parishad premises as chief guest. The state minister also distributed 68 bundles CI sheet (corrugated tin) and Taka 2,04,000 among 35 destitute families. Each of the families in 14 unions and two pourashavas of the upazila received two bundles of tin and Taka 6,000.Chairman of the Zila Parishad and General Secretary of the district Awami League Abdul Motin Bhuiyan, deputy commissioner Dr. Shubash Chandra Biswas, project officer Abul Kalam Azad, Sadar upazila primary education officer Mir Mohammad Jahidul Kabir Tohin and local elite were present at the distribution function. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) M Salim Reza presided over the function, reports BSS.

Science Fair begins in Saidpur

The National Science Fair was inaugurated on National Science and TechnologWeek. Science Fair of two-days inaugurated in Saidpur, Nilphamari. Saidpur Upazila administration organised the fair at Saidpur Lions School and College on Tuesday afternoon. Whip Opposition of the Alhaj Shawkat Chowdhury MP inaugurated the fair as the chief guest. Saidpur Upazila Parishad Chairman Moksedul Momin, Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Parimal Kumar Sarker, Upazila Secondary Education Officer Rehana Yasmin, Chairman of Lions School and College Lion Nazrul Islam were present as special guests. Chaired by Saidpur Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Bazlur Rashid. There are 12 stalls in the fair.

11 Indian cows seized in Satkhira Shyamnagar

Police seized 11 Indian Indian cows from Shyamnagar in Satkhira. The cows were seized from the house of Abdus Chatra Kalugi of Ishwarpur village of the upazila on Monday morning. Kaliganj Assistant Superintendent of Police Mirza Salahuddin said on the basis of secret information on Monday that smugglers crossed illegally from India and kept them in Shyamnagar area. Later, police seized 11 Indian nationals without ownership. The smugglers were illegally trafficking cattle from India, he said.

Drug trader held with pistol in Natore

NATORE: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-5 in a drive arrested an alleged drug peddler with a foreign-made pistol and two rounds of bullets from Kashiabari village in Singra upazila yesterday. The arrestee was identified as Babu, a resident of the same village in the upazila. Acting on a tip-off, the elite force team conducted a drive in the area and arrested him with the firearm from his house, said Major Shibli Mostofa, Natore Camp Commander of RAB-5, reports UNB.
