Debate competition on cleanliness held at Saidpur

A debate competition was held organised by Saidpur Municipality in collaboration with SKS Foundation and Water Aid in the Municipal premises on Tuesday . The participating educational institution were Saidpur Pilot Girls’ High School and College and Saidpur Adarsha Girl’s School and College. Chairman of Saidpur Upazila Md. Moksedul Momin, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Bazlul Rashid, Upazila Education Officer (Primary) Md. Shahjahan Mondol, Municipal Mayor-1 and 2 Ziaul Haque and Shahin Akhter, respectively and Project co-ordinator of S K S Foundation (Usha Project) Mohammad Nazrul Islam Tapdar and others spoke in the programme. The debate competition was chaired by the Municipal Mayor Md. Amzad Hossain Sarker. The judges panel was In- Charge of Bangladesh Betar Thakurgaon, Message Distributor (Nilphamari) Alhaj Aminul Haque, Upazila Secondary Education Rehana Yasmin, Former Municipal Mayor Alhaj Bakhtiya Kabir, District Council Member and Former Principal Alhaj Md Abdul Gafur Sarkar, Chairman of Women Sports Association Rabeya Alim. Saidpur Pilot Girls’ High School and College team won the contest of the debate. Shikha Rani Iti selected as the best speaker. School bags and crests were distributed among them.
Youth held with heroin in C’nawabganj
CHAPAINAWABGANj: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab)-5 in a drive arrested a youth with 2.1 kilograms of contraband heroin from Alimnagar area of Sadar upazila on Monday night. The arrestee was identified as Md Fatik Miah, 30, son of Yahiya of Goaltuli area of the upazila. Confirming the matter, Md Sayeed Abdullah Al-Murad, Commanding Squadron Leader of Chapainawabganj Camp, said that acting on a tip-off, an elite force team conducted a raid in the area and arrested Fatik Miah with the heroin around 9.30pm. The worth of seized heroin is about Tk 2.10 crore. A case was filed with Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station in this connection, the Rab official added, reports UNB.
BNP submits memo to Kishoreganj DC

As part its countrywide programme BNP, Kishoreganj District Committee on Sunday submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner office (DC) of Kishoreganj demanding the release of its Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia from jail. A BNP delegation led by its Kishoreganj District Unit Vice-President Md. Amiruzzaman, Advocate Jalal Uddin, Ali Mohammad, Bar Association President Advocate Galal Md. Gous, Advocate Faijul Karim Mobin and Advocate Shariful Islam.
‘Robber’ lynched in Shariatpur
SHARIATPUR: A suspected robber was killed in a lynch-mob attack during a robbery at a house of East Chorosondi village in Sadar upazila early Saturday. The deceased was identified as Kabir Hossain Khan, 40, son of Ansar Ali Khan of Nagerpara village in Gosairhat upazila.Additional Police Super Abdul Hannan said a gang of 10-12 robbers stormed into the house of Mosleh Uddin Howlader in the early hours.Sensing the presence of the bandits, villagers surrounded them and caught Kabir, he said.Later, the angry mob gave him a mass beating and gouged out his both eyes, the additional SP.Police rescued him in a critical condition and took him to the Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries in the morning, said sub-inspector Gulzar Alam of Palong Model Police Station, reports UNB.
Minor hurt in Jessore bomb blast
JESSORE: A minor boy sustained burn injuries as a hand bomb exploded at Bhoberber village in Sharsha upazila of the district on Sunday. The injured was identified as Anik Hasan, 9, son of Imam Ali of the village. He was admitted to Jessore General Hospital. Victim’s father Imam Ali said Anik found an object by the rail tracks near their house around 10 am. Later, he started playing with it thinking it a toy. At one stage, the bomb exploded with a big bang, injuring him, reports UNB.
