The students of Bagerhat Marine Institute observed strike at Baitpur-Chitali within Bemarta Union Parishad under Sadar Upazila in Bagerhat for the removal of its acting Principal Dr. Sirajul Islam for his alleged grossed malpractices and irregularities the higher authorities closed the institute for sine die and asked the students to vacate their hostels by 2 pm with effect from Thursday. It may be mentioned here the students of the institution earlier submitted a memorandum to the higher authorities stating as many 18 allegations against the acting principal for his immediate removal and began to be refrained from attending their classes from Monday. The agitated students also burnt the effigy of the acting principal of the intuition.
Fire guts property
Another report states that properties worth at least Tk10 lakh were completely gutted when a big fire broke out in Munshir hat, a village market within Panchakaran Union Parishad under Morrelganj Upazila in the district on Monday afternoon. It is guessed that the fire originated from an electricity short circuit took place in the shop of one Ali Sharif spread to the adjacent shops within moments and went out of control. Seeing the flame of fire the locals and the villagers rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after a long fighting for 2 hours. In spite of that 3 grocery shops and one hair saloon were completely gutted with their all belongings.
Networking confce on journalism held at RU

A-day networking conference on journalism education was held at Rajshahi University on Friday, aiming to enhance the quality of education of the students of the journalism field. RU mass communication and journalism department and DW Akademie, one of the leading organizations for international media development in Germany, jointly organized the conference at the university senate building to enhance the relationship among the institutions connected with journalism field. The head of journalism department of twenty public and private universities across the country and academics and students related to the journalism field participated in the conference. RU vice chancellor Professor M Abdus Sobhan inaugurated the inaugural session of the daylong conference as Chief Guest. RU pro-vice chancellor Professor Ananda Kumar Shaha and the head of DW Adademie for Asia and Europe regions addressed the session as special guests. RU mass communication and journalism department chair associate Professor Pradip Kumar Panday presided over the conference while department’s assistant Professor Naziat Hossain Choudhury conducted the conference. Drug trader held with 61 pieces Yaba in Netrakona

Police arrested a drug-trader namely Rezaul Karim, 28, with 61 pieces of Yaba tablets from West Bazer of Kalmakanda upazila town in the district on Friday night.
Police sources here said, acting on a secret information, a police team of Kalmakanda police station cordoned off the west-bazer area and caught Rezaul red-handed with the contraband drug-items. Meanwhile, a case was recorded with the Kalmakanda police station under narcotics control act against the arrested drug-trader Rezaul, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Kalmakanda Police Station AKM Mizanur Rahman said. The arrested Rezaul was produced before the court in Netrakona today, the OC added.
