14 hurt over land dispute in Habiganj

At least fourteen people were injured, four of them with rubber bullets, during a clash over land dispute in Bahubal upazila of Habiganj yesterday. Bullet-hit Idris Ali, 60, was admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, and the three others — Jewel Mia, 45, Abdul Mia, 35, and Habib Ullah, 27 — were admitted to Habiganj Sadar Hospital. They hail from Sundratiki village in Bahubal upazila, said Resident Medical Officer of Bahubal Health Complex Babul Kumar Das. He said the others took primary treatment at the complex. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Jasim Uddin said the clash ensued around 1:00pm between Rampur Tea Garden authority and residents of Sundratiki village over ownership of 17 acres of land leased by the tea garden. Police said they fired rubber bullets and tear gas shells to disperse the clashing people, leaving four with wounds caused by rubber bullets.
2 held with 3,195 Yaba tablets in Rajshahi, C’nawabganj
RAJSHAHI : Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) have arrested two alleged drug traders along with some 3,195 Yaba tablets in Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj districts. In Rajshahi, an alleged drug peddler was held along with 3,000 contraband tablets from Cityhat Bypass area under Shah Makhdum Police Station in the city on Wednesday morning. The arrestee was identified as Abdul Hamed, 40, son of late Irfan Ali of Shuknapara village in Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila, said a Rab press release. Acting on a tip-off, an elite force team from Mollahpara camp conducted a drive in the area around 9:30am and arrested Hamed along with the Yaba pills. In hapainawabganj, the crime-busting force arrested a young man along with 195 Yaba tablets from Dhakkamara of the district town on Wednesday noon. The arrestee is Mohammad Raju, 35, son of Obayedur Rahman of Masjidpara in the town. Being tipped that the contraband pills were being sold at Dhakkamara, a Rab-13 team, led by its commanding officer M Motahar Hossain, conducted a drive there. During the drive, the elite force arrested Raju along with the Yaba tablets, said assistant police super Sudarshan Roy. Separate cases were filed, reports UNB.
Digital Innovation Fair ends in Rajshahi
The three-day “Digital Innovation Fair- 2018” ended on Rajshahi Collage playground in the city on Thursday evening with a call to make people aware about e-services to engage them in the digital activities. In collaboration with ICT Ministry and Access to Information (A2I) project of Prime Minister’s Office, District Administration organised the fair. Latest ICT products, multi-media classroom, mobile banking and e-learning items were put on display in around 70 stalls. Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Rajshahi Helal Mahmud Sharif and Principal of Rajshahi College Prof Habibur Rahman addressed the closing session as the chief and special guests respectively with Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education and ICT) Nasima Khatun in the chair, reports BSS.
Art camp starts in Sylhet

An art camp has been organised at The Bahubal Palace in Sylhet by Galleri Kaya. The two day long art camp has as its participants noted artists Ahmed Shamsuddoha, Jamal Ahamed, Sheikh Afzal Hossain, Mohammad Iqbal, Rafiqun Nabi and Ranjit Das. On the opening day all the artists worked with charchoal. When it comes to theme all the artists save two worked with nature. The other two Ranjit Das and Mohammad Iqbal worked on figurative art. The art camp started yesterday to give the artists an opportunity to get them refreshed in the proximity of nature. The artists shared their personal experiences and artistic knowledge amongst themselves on the opening day. Goutam Chakraborty, director of Galleri Kaya has often been an initiator of such events.
