Polish official accuses Jews of ‘passivity’ in Holocaust

An adviser to Poland’s president has said that Israel’s reaction to a law criminalizing some statements about Poland’s actions during World War II stems from a “feeling of shame at the passivity of the Jews during the Holocaust.”
Andrzej Zybertowicz made the remark in an interview published Friday in the Polska-The Times newspaper. Zybertowicz tweeted a link to the article on Friday.

Two killed as militants attack Indian camp

Militants stormed an Indian army camp early Saturday in the country’s northern Jammu and Kashmir state, killing at least two army officers and wounding seven people, a senior police official said.
The police officer, who asked not to be named, said three or four militants had launched the attack. At least two junior commissioned officers were killed, the officer said, and two women and two children – relatives of army personnel – were among seven injured in the fighting.

New commander named for US Pacific Fleet

Aquilino currently commands the U.S. 5th Fleet operating out of Bahrain.
The U.S. Senate will vote on the nomination that was announced Friday.

Adams stepping down as Sinn Fein leader

 Mary Lou McDonald will on Saturday replace Gerry Adams as the president of Sinn Fein following his decision to step down after 34 years as the figurehead of the Irish republican movement. McDonald, 48, the left-wing party’s deputy leader, was confirmed last month as successor to Adams, 69, who has dominated the left-wing party since November 1983.

Mahathir in hospital for chest infection

 Malaysia’s veteran former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad, who has been picked to lead an opposition bid for election victory, has been admitted to hospital with a chest infection, authorities said Saturday.
The 92-year-old, who has joined forces with his former protege-turned-nemesis Anwar Ibrahim in an attempt to topple scandal-tainted Prime Minister Najib Razak.
 “is being treated in the general ward for chest infection following a bout of cough,” the National Heart Institute said in a statement.
