The largest of three French prison guard unions spearheading a nationwide strike said on Friday it would accept a government proposal on better pay and staff safety.
The UFAP-Unsa union said its acceptance would end picketing and work stoppages by its members. Two other labor unions have rejected the government offer of more hires, pay bonuses and measures to better contain inmate violence.
US plane mistakenly kills 7 in Iraq

Two senior Iraqi army officers say a U.S. military plane has mistakenly fired at a gathering of tribal fighters and civilians west of Anbar, killing seven and wounding 11 others.
The officers said Saturday the U.S. forces had thought the victims in the al-Baghdadi area were militants.
The incident came after U.S.-backed Iraqi forces earlier Saturday arrested an Islamic State group operative at his home, the officers said.
At least 1 dead in Amsterdam shooting

A shooting in downtown Amsterdam on Friday night left one person dead and two injured, Dutch police said.
“One person has died and two wounded, a man and a young woman, were taken to hospital after a shooting on Grote Wittenburgerstraat, in the city centre,” Amsterdam police spokesman Leo Dortland told AFP.
“This is clearly not a terror attack, but a criminal incident,” he said, adding that police were still looking for the attacker or attackers.
Ex-Guatemala SC President shot dead

The ex-president of the Guatemalan Supreme Court was shot dead Friday during an incident on the outskirts of the capital Guatemala City, according to emergency personnel.
Jose Arturo Sierra, who presided over the high court between 2013 and 2014, was attacked by unknown perpetrators while traveling by road, and was taken to hospital where he died, authorities announced on Twitter.
