Ranga calls hajis to work for human welfare
RANGPUR: State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga here yesterday called upon the hajis to work for human welfare. “The hands of Hajis will always be on top to seek welfare of the people from Almighty Allah as there is no benefit to seek welfare from human being,” the state minister said while addressing the general meeting of ‘Adarsha Haji Kallyan Samobaya Samity Limited (AHKSSL) ‘ at Community Hall in the city as the chief guest. With President of AHKSSL Alhaj Khorshedur Rahman Prince in the chair, Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa, noted social worker Rakiba Nasrine and Director of Prime Bank Limited VIP Shahadat Hossain addressed the event as special guests, reports BSS.
‘Drug trader’ held in Magura
MAGURA: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a suspected drug trader from Rautola in Sadar upazila on Thursday night. A patrol team of Rab-6 detained Abdul Momin Biswas, 30, son of Mohiuddin Biswas, a resident of Abalpur village, while he was bringing 40 pieces of Yaba from border area, said Elius Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station. Later, he was handed over to police, reports UNB.
Initiative taken to rehabilitate beggars in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: An initiative has been taken by the district administration to rehabilitee beggars in Gaibandha by involving them in different income-generating works this year. The government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, took a programme last year aiming to make the country free from beggars by 2018. As per the programme, various strategies had been taken by the district administration to rehabilitee beggars by creating work opportunities for them in the district, said MM Ashik Reza, Nezarat Deputy Collector. He said about 6,878 beggars of seven upazilas in the district will be rehabilitated in the society depending on their desirable and capable income- generating activities, report BSS.
Youth held with Yaba in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: Members of Armed Police Battalion (APBn) in a drive arrested a young man along with 100 pieces of Yaba tablets in Kashimpur area in Godagari upazila on Tuesday noon. The arrestee was identified as Saheb Ali, 20, son of Zakaria, a resident of Ramchandrapurhat village of Chapainawabganj district. Tipped-off, APBn members conducted a drive in a bus of RMP Enterprise and arrested Saheb Ali along with 100 pieces of Yaba around 2pm, said Altaf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Godagari Police Station, reports UNB.
3 held with hemp, phensidyl
KHULNA: The officials of Department of Narcotic Control (DNC) in a drive arrested three people along with 100 gram of hemp, 60 bottles of phensidyl and 200 pieces of Yaba tablets from Phultala and Batiaghata upazilas of the district on Tuesday night. The arrestees were identified as Abul Hossain Biswas, 25, son of Abdul Mazid of Dabodar area and Faruque Biswas, 52, son of Shamsul Islam of the same area and Sohel, 25, son of Md Mazid of Jolma area in Batiaghata upazila, reports UNB.
Father, son held with hemp in B’baria
BRAHMANBARIA: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a man and his son along with 224 kg hemp at Alinagar village in Bijoynagar Upazila on Sunday evening. The arrestees are Dhon Mia member, 70, and his son Sulaiman, 33, residents of the village. Tipped off, a team of Rab-9 raided the house of Dhon and recovered the hemp worth Tk 22.40 lakh and arrested the duo, said Ali Arshad, officer-in-charge of Bijoynagar Police Station, reports UNB.
