Fugitive convict arrested in Sylhet

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-9) in a drive arrested a person from Sheikhghat area of the city on Wednesday night. The arrested was identified as Nurul Islam (48), son of late Mukit Miah. RAB sources said acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in the aforesaid area and arrested Nurul in connection with a cheque dishonour case. Nurul was sentenced to six months of imprisonment over cheque dishonor case.
View exchange meet on early marriage, drug-addiction held

 A view exchange meeting was held at Charalgi Union Ward No-2 Notun Bazar with primary school teachers and students on drugs, militancy and early marriage to create mass awareness among them arranged by Gafargaon Thana Police on Wednesday afternoon at Gafargaon . Muhammad Abdul Ahad Khan, OC of Gafargaon Thana was the chief guest in the view exchange meeting. Helal Uddin Second Officer of Gafargaon Thana , Headmaster Shafiqul Islam of Charkamaria Government Primary School were also present in this meeting. Besides, a mass-awareness discussion meeting was held on implementation of an act to exterminate drug-addiction, militancy and early marriage” from the society.
Science-based quiz competition held in Jhenaidah

A science-based quiz competition was held at Kanchannagar Model High School and College Auditorium on Thursday afternoon. Presided over by UNO Shammi Islam, Deputy Commissioner Jakir Hossain attended the programme as Chief Guest. Jhenidah Sadar Upazila Parishjad Chairman Abdul Alim, District Education Officer Moksedul Islam, Upazila Education Officer MA Arif Sarker and principal of the educational institute Pradip Kumar Biswas participated in the discussion. Jhenidah Sadar Upazila Parishjad arranged the programme as per guidelines of the ministry of science and technology where 49 teams of 135 educational institutions participated in the competition. Kanchannagar Model High School and College secured the first position, while Jhenidah Government Girls High School bagged the second position. Deputy commissioner Jakir Hossain distributed prizes among the winning teams.
