Tree Olympiad held in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: A regional tree Olympiad is being held here aims at generating diversified and creative future generation besides awareness about tree and environment among students of present generation. As part of this continuous process, seventh phase of primary selection was held at Agrani School and College in the city on Monday with a festive mood. Bangladesh Resource Center for Indigenous knowledge (BARCIK) and Barind Educational and Cultural Diversity Protection Center (BECDPC) jointly organized the extraordinary Olympiad for the first time in the country. Principal of the college Saiful Islam, assistant teachers Moinul Islam and Rana Mia, BARCIK Regional Coordinator Shahidul Islam, Olympiad Committee President Jinatun Nessa and BECDPC Executive Council Members Md Hanif and Shams Uddin addressed the session. More than 150 students took part in the first round test consisting of extempore speech on trees and the environment and a 20-mark written examination. Of them, 10 students qualified for the final round and they were given ‘Yes’ cards, reports BSS.
Employment generation programme continues in Muktagachha
MYMENSINGH: A 40-day employment generation programme at a cost of TK over 3 crore 36 lakh taken by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief continues in Muktagacha upazila of the district. A total of 84 projects under the programme are being implemented as a good number of day laborers are happy to get taka 200 per day during the programme. Upazila Project Implementation Officer (PIO) Sherajul Islam siddiquee told BSS today that Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief had sanctioned TK over 3 crore 36 lakh against 84 projects in 10 unions of the upazila . The projects include renovation and repairing of rural roads and development of different educational institutions and religious establishments, reports BSS.
31 Ansar, VDP leaders get by-cycles, sowing machines in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: Some 31 leaders of Ansar and Village Defense Party (VDP) were given by-cycles, sowing machines and carom boards as prizes on Thursday for inspiring them to discharge their duties properly. The items were distributed at an annual district assembly organized by district Ansar and VDP office at the auditorium of Zila Shilpakala Academy of the town. Quazi M. Shakhawat Hossain, director of Ansar and VDP, Rangpur range, attended the function and formally handed over the prizes to the selected leaders as the chief guest for showing their laudable performance in jobs. Additional police super Abdullah Al Faruk and civil surgeon Dr. Abdus Shakur were present at the event as the special guests while additional deputy commissioner (Revenue) Rokhsana Begum presided over the ceremony. Journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman and Ballamjhar union VDP leader Rubina Begum spoke at the function, among others. A total of 200 leaders of Ansar and VDP coming from 82 unions of the district took part in the rally, reports BSS.
Massive Boro cultivation plan taken in Nilphamari
NILPHAMARI: The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has taken massive programme to cultivate Boro paddy in all six upazilas of the district in the upcoming Boro season. The DAE sources said, under the programme, a total of 84,229 hectares of land would be brought under Boro cultivation in the district with the production target fixed at 3,57,358 tonnes of rice. To cultivate the paddy in the field, the seedbed has been prepared on at least 4,970 hectares of land, DAE sources said.Now, the farmers are busy to prepare the seedbeds on the low land with the hopes of growing healthy seedlings for getting desired production through transplanting those, reports BSS.
