Dacoit killed in gun fight in Jhenidah

A dacoit was killed in gun fight near Patbila bridge on Kotchandpur- Kaligonj road under Kaliganj upazila of Jhenidah district on Tuesday early hours. The deceased is Motiar Rahman alias Mamun, 42 son of Nekbar Joardar of Gograpara village under Harinakundo upazila of the district. Officer- in – charge (OC) Anwar Hossain of Kaligonj police station said, during petrol duty on Kaligonj-Kotchandpur road on Tuesday night at around 3-00 am a group of bandit committing dacoity felling tree across the road near Patbila bridge. Sensing the presence of patrolling of police they opened fire at the police. Police also promptly opened fire targeting the dacoits. At the time Motiar caught in the line of fire and received bullet injuries. Instantly, he was rushed to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital where the on duty doctors declared him dead. The rest managed to flee.
Income tax fair begins in Sylhet

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) organised the Income Tax Fair 2014 from September 16 to 22 simultaneously at Sylhet stadiam on Monday . NBR Sylhet region sources said, The fair at the Sylhet stadiam will be for seven days. The Income Tax Day will be observed at the same time. Finance Minister AMA Muhith will inaugurate the fair on Tuesday. Like previous years, the major objectives of this year’s fair will be making people aware about the importance and benefit of paying tax regularly.
During the fair, the NBR will offer people various services including online facility for submitting income tax return and registering for e-TIN certificate. There will be separate booths for women, disable people and senior citizens. Sonali Bank and Janata Bank will set up booths at the fair venue so people can pay their income tax. During the fair, NBR staff will be available at the Help Desk to assist people with necessary information and services.
One killed in encounter in Monirampur

One person was killed in an encounter at Monirampur on let Saturday night. Police said, identified Osman Dafadar (30) , son of Azibor Dafadar of village Hashadanga under Monirampur Upazila was arrested on Saturday noon from Fakir Rasta Crossing Bazar. He was wanted in 7 cases including 6 dacoity cases. Police demanded after confession he was taken to Aminpur grave yard for recovery of fire arms but at that time associates of Osman opened fire targeting police. At one stage Osman managed to flee and received bullet injury and killed on the sport. Two police men were also bullet injured.  
Koira OC in Khulna closed
KHULNA: Officer-in-charge of Koira Police Station Subir Dutta was withdrawn on Tuesday on charge of his failure to improve the ‘deteriorating’ law and order situation in the area. However, local people claimed that the OC was closed as he did not allow local youths, reportedly belonging to Bangladesh Chhatra League, a free entry to a circus show a couple of days back. Meanwhile, Subir Dutta filed a case against some BCL activists in connection with a clash between police and BCL activists in the area. Contacted, police super of the district M Habibur Rahman said the OC has been withdrawn following the deterioration in the law and order situation in his area, reports UNB.
