New primary school building inaugurated

MANIKGANJ: The newly constructed building of Afsar uddin Mollah Government Primary School in Hatipara union under sadar upazila of the district was inaugurated on Monday. Manikganj Zila Parishad chairman and District Awami League president Advocate Golam Mohiuddin inaugurated the building at a function here with Hatipara Union Parishad chairman Golam Monir Hossain in the chair. Gazi Kamrul Huda Selim, Mayor, Manikganj Pourasava and Aleya Ferdousi Shikha, District Primary Education Officer (DPEO) were present, among others. Speakers at the function said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is implementing various development programmes in the country. They urged people to re-elect Awami League in next general election to continue the development of the country. Department of Primary Education constructed the school building at a cost of Tk.89 lakh, reports BSS.

Social Service Day observed in Kishoreganj

The National Social Service Day was observed on Tuesday under the initiative of Social Welfare Ministry. Many programmes were observed in 13 upazilas of district. The day theme of this year is “Women, irrespective of men and women, will build in the service of the country”.District Social Service Department arranged colourfull rally, discussion, pestering, cultural function, loan distribution among the destitute and distribution warm cloths among cold hit people marking the day. A discussion meeting was held at Local Cild (Girls) Family Complex on Tuesday noon. Deputy Commissioner Md. Azimuddin Biswas attended as chief guest while Deputy Dirictor Md. Rabiul Islam in the chair. ADC (General & D.S) Tarafder Md. Akhter Jamil, Principal Professor (Retd.) Rafiqul Islam Khan, Hindu Kallan Trusti Advocate Dolon Bhowmik, Sadar UNO Abdullah-al-Masud, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito and Women Leader Bilkis Begum were also present on the occassion. A rally was brought out in the town marking the day.

Schoolboy killed in Barisal road crash

BARISAL: A class-three student was killed as a motorcycle hit him on Janukisingh road in Kaunia area of the city on Sunday evening. The deceased was identified as Tanvir, son of Delwar Hossain and class-III student of Uttar Kaunia Government Primary School. Md Nurul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kaunia Police Station, said that the motorcycle ran over Tanvir while he was returning home after receiving his result from the school in the evening, leaving him critically injured.
Later, the injured was rushed to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared him dead, reports UNB.
