Sharif arrives in S Arabia visit
PTI, Lahore
Pakistan’s ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who left the country on Saturday amid reports of a “deal” between the embattled Sharif family and the powerful military establishment, has arrived in Saudi Arabia.
Mr Sharif left for Riyadh on a Saudi Airlines flight Saturday evening.
36 dead in central Kenya bus crash

Thirty-six people were killed and 11 injured early Sunday morning in a head-on collision between a bus and a lorry on a road in central Kenya, police said.
“The death toll is now 36,” said Rift Valley traffic police chief Zero Arome, explaining the initial toll of 30 had risen, “after six passengers succumbed to injuries in hospital.”
Six dead as seaplane crashes into Sydney

A seaplane crashed into a Sydney river on Sunday, killing six people on a “wine and dine” sightseeing flight ahead of the city’s New Year’s Eve celebrations at the harbor.
Police said they did not know the cause of the crash, nor the identities of the five passengers, but were speaking with several witnesses who were in boats on one of the waterways’ busiest days of the year. The pilot was the sixth victim.

Thousands gather in Togo to protest President

Tens of thousands of demonstrators thronged the streets of the Togolese capital on Saturday, the latest in a series of mass protests against the rule of President Faure Gnassingbe.
Anti-government marches have been held across the country nearly every week since August, attracting hundreds of thousands of protesters demanding the exit of Gnassingbe, who has ruled for more than 15 years.

Saint Petersburg attack suspect arrested

Russian investigators on Saturday arrested a suspect linked to the Saint Petersburg bomb which tore through a supermarket, wounding 18 people, in an attack labelled by President Vladimir Putin as an “act of terror”.
Saint Petersburg, Russia’s second city, and Putin’s hometown, was the scene of a deadly metro bombing in April and is set to host games during next year’s football World Cup, raising fears of similar attacks.
