AL leader Raqib dies

Jessore District BAR Association President and also former general secretary of district unit Awami League Sharif Abdur Raqib died at Apollo Hospital in Dhaka at around 10:00pm on Thursday. Aleya Afroze, wife of the former leader who is also a former lawmaker, confirmed the information to journalists. She said the former AL leader was kept in life support till the declaration of death. The AL leader was 63. He served the post of Jessore district unit AL for 18 years. He was president of the executive body of Rights Jessore, a human rights organization. He is survived by wife, two daughters and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn. The leader was set to burry at Karbal Graveyard in Jessore after namaj-e-janaja at Jessore Eidgah after juma prayers
One killed in Habiganj road crash

A man was killed and four others were injured on Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Habiganj Sadar upazila as truck hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Aminul Islam, hailed from Sharifabad village of the upazila. Officer in-Charge Mohammad Nazim Uddin said a Sylhet-bound truck hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the area leaving one passenger dead at the spot. The injured were taken to Habiganj Adhunik Sadar Hospital for treatment and later shifted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Winter clothes distributed at Fulbari

Friends Group distributed winter clothes among 200 colder poor people in Rangamati BGB camp area of Fulbari upazila In Dinajpur on Friday evening. Drug peddler held, 1.1kg heroin seized in C’nawabganj
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged drug peddler and seized 1.1 kg of heroin worth Tk 1.1 crore from Narendrapur Sujonpara village under Chapainawabganj sadar upazila early yesterday morning. The arrestee was identified as Md Momin, 32, son of late Saidur Rahman of Chardurlavpur Pathalia village under the upazila. Acting on a tip off, a team of RAB from Chapainawabganj camp raided Narendrapur Sujonpara village at about 3:30 am and seized the heroin from Momin’s possession, RAB officials said. Later, he was handed over to police. A case was filed with Sadar Police Station in connection with the incident, reports BSS.
Youth electrocuted in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: A young man was electrocuted at Narayanpur village in Tanore upazila on Friday. Mominul Islam, 18, son of Kabil Hossain, of Elamdohi village, who worked as s day -labourer, came in contact of a live wire when he was cutting branches of a mango tree and died on the spot, said Saiful Islam, sub-inspector of Tanore Police Station. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital for autopsy, reports UNB.
