International Literacy Day observed in Gopalganj

International Literacy Day 2014 was observed with befitting manner in Gopalganj on Monday. The programmes including rally, discussion, meeting, hand-writing, competition and Education authenticity picture to make the day. On the occasion district administration and district information Office, Gopalganj jointly brought out a colorful rally where teachers, students, NGO workers, local elite including the high officials of the district administration participated , which paraded different streets of the district town. After rally, a discussion meeting was held at DC office conference room, organised by district administration, Gopalganj. Md. Khalilur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner, Gopalaganj was present as Chief Guest. Md. Rafiqul Islam, Additional Deputy Commissioner ADC (Edn. & ICT), Gopalganj presided over the meeting. Among others, Ziaun Nahar, Head Teacher, SM Model Govt. High School, Md. Imran Ali, Head teacher of Binapani Govt. Girls High School, Gopalganj, Agross Kumar Roy, Assistant Director Buro of Non-formal Education under Ministry of Mass Education and Zahid Hassan, SP acting in-charge, Gopalganj spoke on the occasion. After sunset a documentary display on Kamal Stadium in Gopalganj city.
BLC student dies in burnt injury

Nazrin Hafiz Trina, 20, accounting first -year student at Khulna Government BL College and also youngest daughter of retire Sonali Bank manager SM Hafizur Rahman and niece of New Age’s Jessore Correspondent Saifur Rahman Saif, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Tuesday morning . She had been fighting for life there since August 10. 45 per cent of her body was burnt while cooking with gas stove on August 10. Father of the victim SM Hafizur Rahman of Nawapara industrial town in Jessore told that Trina received serious burn wounds while cooking at their residence on August 10. She was taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital soon after the incident and then shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on the same day. She was first admitted to the burn unit and then shifted to ICU on the next day. She was kept on life support later. She is survived by her father, mother and a host of relatives to mourn. She was buried at her family graveyard of Moulavi Bari at Nawapara industrial town after janaja prayer.
BCC to introduce weekly public hearing day

Barisal City Corporation authority has decided to introduce weekly public hearing (Gano-Shunani) day at different departments to maintain transparency, accountability and improve service standard. Nikhil Chandra Das, Chief Executive officer BCC, acknowledging the facts, said Prime Minister as head of the government in a meeting with the secretaries of deferent ministries on April 7, 2014, ordered directly to hear and solve problems and fulfill demands of service wanting people through introducing public hearing systems at different departments. After that Maksudur Rahman, Joint Secretary of Cabinet Division, issuing a letter on July 1, 2014 asked BCC to start public hearing system immediately to provide speedy standard services. As per that order BCC as an organ of local government ministry decided to introduce public hearing system by rotation in different departments on every Wednesday from next week, the BCC CEO added.
Workshop on budget book composition held

A daylong workshop of information, planning and budget book composition in Pirganj Upazila parishad under Thakurgaon district was held at Upazila parishad conference room on Thursday last. With the assistance of Upazila Governance Project (UGP)of local government division the workshop was chaired by Pirganj Upazila parishad chairman Md. Ziaul Islam Zia. Where Minu Shil, Director (Join Secretary) of local government Rangpur division was present as chief guest.
