Huge drugs seized from pharma company, owner fined

Rapid Action Battalion with the help of drug administration authority seized huge illegal drugs from Indo-Bangla Pharmaceuticals Limited at College Road area of Barisal city and fined its owner on early Wednesday. Major Raqib Uzzzaman, deputy commander of RAB unit-8, acknowledging the facts said on basis of tip-off they raided the factory and depot of the company on Tuesday noon and continued that till early Wednesday. Tanvir Ahmed, supervisor of drug administration office Barisal, said during the drive they seized different types of medicines worth Tk 20 lakhs in the forms of tablets and capsules produced and marketed by Indo-Bangla Pharmaceuticals under the brand names like Neostin-R, Indoprox-Mix, Indostin-R, Indofenx, Metrol, Indofenac, and Riboflavine. Among these the company never got permission to produce Neostin-R 150(Ranitidine 150 mg) , Indoprox-Mix 500 (Neoproxen 500 and Esomeprezole 20) and they have no registration needed for producing of seized other drugs, the drug official said.
14 houses torched in Madaripur clash
MADARIPUR: At least 14 houses were torched in sporadic clashes between two groups of villagers over establishing supremacy in Lakshmiganj area of Sadar upazila. Witnesses said two groups of people led by ward No. 2 councilor of Madaripur municipality Moniruzzaman Aktar Hawladar and Enamul Chowdhury, a local of Lakshmiganj, clashed with each other on Friday night and Saturday morning. The two groups exploded dozens of hand bombs, vandalised and torched at least 14 houses. Chase and counter chase incidents took place intermittently. Officer-in-charge of Madaripur Police Station Md Kamrul Hasan said adequate number of law enforcers have been deployed in the area to fend off any further agitation, reports UNB.
One held with 7 gold bars along Satkhira border  
SATKHIRA: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a passenger along with seven gold bars along Balodghata border in Sadar upazila on Wednesday morning. The arrestee was identified as Mafizul Islam, son of Ramzan Ali, a resident of Boikari village in the upazila. Nayek Subedar Ohidul Islam, company commander of Boikari BOP under BGB Satkhira 38 battalion, said on secret information, BGB members conducted a drive in the frontier and detained the gold smuggler.After searching his body, seven gold bars were recovered. During primary questioning, he admitted that the gold was being smuggled into India, reports UNB.
