MYMENSINGH: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested two arms traders along with firearms and ammunitions from Nasirabad college area at Akua in the district town on Tuesday midnight.The detainees are identified as Sohel and Arman. Rab-7 operation officer Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gautom said based on secret information a special team of Rab carried out a raid at a house in the area and detained the duo. Later, the elite force recovered seven pistols, seven rounds of bullets and arms making materials from the house.An organised gang had long been making firearms at the house and selling those in local market, the ASP added. Details in this regard will be disclosed at a press conference to be held later in the day, reports UNB.
Two drug dealers held in Magura
MAGURA: Police arrested two drug dealers along with 150 pieces of Yaba tablets from Panighata village of Mohammadpur thana in the district on Tuesday evening. The arrestees are Mazedul Islam, 35, son of Golam Rasul and Mirazul Islam, son of Mizan Sikder from Panighata. Officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station Tarikul Islam said members of police caught the duo red handed while selling Yaba tablets in their residence and seized 150 contraband pills. Police also recovered a motorcycle without license, three mobile phone sets and Tk 2,500 in cash, he added.A case was filed. Mazedul and Mirazul were taken to local court on Wednesday, reports UNB.

SATKHIRA: Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a passenger along with seven gold bars along Balodghata border in Sadar upazila on Wednesday morning. The arrestee was identified as Mafizul Islam, son of Ramzan Ali, a resident of Boikari village in the upazila. Nayek Subedar Ohidul Islam, company commander of Boikari BOP under BGB Satkhira 38 battalion, said on secret information, BGB members conducted a drive in the frontier and detained the gold smuggler.After searching his body, seven gold bars were recovered. During primary questioning, he admitted that the gold was being smuggled into India, reports UNB.

BENAPOLE: Customs intelligence officials arrested two people along with 10 gold bars, weighing one kilogram, from Benapole check-post area here on Wednesday. The arrestees were identified as Mohsin Khan, 36, son of Jahangir Hossain Khan of Shariatpur and Elius Ahmed, 40, son of Ibrahim Ahmed of Faridpur district. Tipped-off, a team of Benapole customs intelligence conducted a drive in the area and arrested the duo around 11:30 am, said Sadek Hossain, deputy director of Benapole Customs Intelligence. Later, they searched their bodies and recovered 10 gold bars. The detainees were handed over to the Benapole Port Police Station, reports UNB.
Free Eye Camp held in Narshingdi
A day-long free eye camp was held at Narsingdi Shorafot Ali Primary School premises at Monohardi Upazila with the financial assistance of Palli Karma Shahayak Foundation (PKSF), organised by an institution of Dhaka Ahsania Mission(DAM) Foundation for Economic Development (DFED) under its ENRICH program on Wednesday, said a press release. A specialist team of doctors examined 344 patients where 52 cataract patients identified. Later on free cataract surgery service will be provided to these patients. UNO of Monohardi Upazila Muhammad Shohidullah inaugurated the camp. Chairman of the Sukundi Union Parishad Md. Sadikur Rahman Shamim and Area Manager DFED Dulal Chandra Debnath spoke on the occasion.
