Juba League celebrates 45th anniversary

The 45th founding anniversary of Awami Juba League (AJL), youth wing of ruling Awami League, was observed in the Sylhet City and its adjacent district on Saturday with elaborate programs. At one minute past zero hours, the founding anniversary program of AJL was inaugurated by cutting a cake at the party office. In observance of the day, leaders and workers of the AJL placed wreaths at the portraits of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and its founder-chairman Sheikh Fazlul Huq Moni and hoisted national and party flags at the party office in the morning. A colorful procession was brought out from the party office in the afternoon which ended at Shaheed Minar after parading different thoroughfares. On this day in 1972, Awami Juba League (AJL) was floated at the instruction of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and under the leadership of Sheikh Fazlul Huq Moni at a youth convention held at the auditorium of the Institution of Engineers in Dhaka. The youth organization was floated with a motto to follow the secular and democratic ideologies of Bangabandhu with a view to involve the country’s youth force in the struggle for building an exploitation-free Bangladesh.
Radha Ramans 102nd death anniversary observed
The 102nd death anniversary of noted dhamail music composer and lyricist Radha Raman Dutta was observed at Keshabpur village under Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj on Friday. As part of the programme, different socio-cultural organisations, Jagannathpur upazila administration and Radha Raman Parishad chalked out different programmes. District cultural officer Ahmed Manzurul Haque Chowdhury said that Jagannathpur upazila administration and Radha Raman Parishad arranged a cultural programme and discussion meeting on the occasion. To protect the memory of Radha Raman, the government has taken initiatives. Some 60 decimals of land were allocated to construct Radha Raman Complex. The complex will be constructed at his ancestral home, he said. Besides, 3000 songs of 28 folk singers were collected under Jotsna project in Sunamganj upazila. Of those, 1050 songs are of Radha Raman, he added.
Meeting against child marriage, terrorism

A meeting and cultural program was held against child marriage, terrorism, and drug at Saidpur on Saturday. The gathering was arranged at Shailla More by Udyan Sangha Sporting Club of Bangalipur Union of Noakhali, Saidpur Upazila. Member of Parliament and Whip of opposition Alhaj Md. Shawkat Chowdhury attended the meeting as the Chief Guest. Saidpur Upazila Parishad Chairman Md Moksedul Momin was the Special Guest, Upazila Awami League General Secretary and President of Bus-Minibus Labor Union Akhter Hossain Badol and Principal of Saidpur Sunflower School and College Mokhlesur Rahman Jewel. It was chaired by the Chairman of Bangalipur Union Parishad of Saidpur Upazila, Mr. Pronobesh Chandra Bagchi Dulal Babu. The meeting was inaugurated by the President of Udayan Sangha Sporting Club of Shailla More of Bangalipur Union. Salim Reza Saju. Nilphamari District Council Member Shamim Chowdhury, Acting President of Saidpur Municipal Awami League Rafiqul Islam Babu, Assistant Director of Nilphamari Narcotics Control Department, Azhar Ali, Journalist Shakir Hossain Badal, Officer in-charge (Investigation) Md. Taj Uddin Khondoker, Udayan Sangha Spotting Club Vice-President Saiful Islam Babu, Vice-President Anwarul Islam Babu, General Secretary Firoz Ahmed and others spoke at the meeting.
