Founding anniversary of AJL observed in Netrakona

The 45th founding anniversary of Awami Jubo League (AJL), the youth wing of Bangladesh Awami League was observed in the district town here on Saturday with an elaborate program undertaken by AJL Netrakona district unit. As part of the program, the workers and leaders of the AJL Netrakona district unit placed floral wreaths at the portraits of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and founder president of AJL Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni in the party office in the morning. Then they also formally hoisted national flag and party flag atop of the party office. A colorful rally was brought out in the district town from the party office and it was ended at the Netrakona central Shaheed minar premises after parading the main roads of the town. A discussion meeting was held at the Shaheed minar premises under the chairmanship of convenor of the AJL Netrakona district unit Masud Khan Joni. The meeting was addressed, among others, by president of Awami League (AL) Netrakona district unit Motiur Rahman Khan, general secretary of AL Netrakona district unit Ashraf Ali Khan Khasru and other local AL and AJL leaders including Nur Khan Mitu , GM Khan Pathan Bimol and Jamiul Islam Khan. The speakers said, the AJL was floated on the day, 1972 at the instruction of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and under the leadership of Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni with a view to involve the country’s youth force in nation building activities for building up the country as “Sonar Bangla” free from hunger and poverty.
Youth arrested with over 3000 Yaba pills
RAJSHAHI: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested a young man along with 3670 pieces of Yaba tablets from Bashpukuria area in Puthia upazila on Saturday evening. The arrested man was identified as Alauddin alias Alal, 36, son of Ahmad Sarnakar of Hatinata village of the upazila. On secret information, a team of Rab-5 conducted a drive in the area around 5:00pm and arrested Alauddin along with 3670 pieces of Yaba tablets, two Subscriber Identity Module ( SIM) cards, a mobile phone set and cash Tk 642, said a press release of the elite force.A case was filed against him with Puthia Police Station under narcotics control act, reports UNB.
Jamaat leaders arrested in Rangpur
RANGPUR: Police in separate raids arrested seven local leaders of Jamaat-E-Islami Bangladesh from different places under Pirganj and Badarganj upazilas here in the early hours of on Saturday. Pirganj Thana police arrested Ameer of Pirganj upazila unit of Jamaat Moulana Golam Mostafa, its Secretary Khairul Azam, former Secretary Moksed Ali and President of Choitrokol union Jamaat Golam Rasul. The four arrested Jamaat leaders are members of Pirganj upazila unit of ‘Shura’ committee of the party. “The arrested Jamaat leaders had been on the run for a longtime and a number of criminal cases are pending against them with Pirganj Thana for their alleged involvement with subversive activities,” said Rezaul Karim, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pirganj Thana.On the other hand, Badarganj Thana police arrested Gopalpur union unit Ameer of the party Joynal Abedin, its Secretary Ruhul Amin and Abdul Mannan (younger brother of Badarganj upazila unit Secretary of Jamaat Abdul Hannan), reports BSS.
Schoolgirl commits suicide in Brahmanbaria  
BRAHMANBARIA: A schoolgirl committed suicide by drinking insecticide at Taragan village of Akhaura upazila early Saturday. The deceased was identified as Tania Akter, 15, daughter of Jasim Uddin, a class eight student of Nasrin Nabi Girls’ High School and a resident of Taragan village of the municipality. Huffing with her family, Tania killed herself early Saturday by drinking insecticide, said Mossarraf Hossain, officer-in-charge of Akhaura Police Station, reports UNB.
