Sramik Dal Leader arrested in Morrelganj

Masud Khan Chunnu (55), Joint Secretary of Morrelganj Upazila Sramik Dal was arrested by a team of DB police of Bagerhat district from his residence near the Steel bridge of Morrelganj in Bagerhat district on Monday. Police at first raided the house of Chunnu in search of intoxicated drug. But they found 2 live cartridges of pistol. Later police recovered a foreign made pistol and 1 kg Ganja from the Gaighar (controlling room) of his fish farm in the village Jewdhara. SI Md. Zahirul Islam, leader of the DB police team told, anti drug campaign started in Morrelganj in the early morning and as its continuation Masud Khan Chunnu was arrested. In the face of police interrogation Masud Khan spontaneously handed over the pistol and Ganja to the police from the Gaighar of his Jewdhara fish farm. On the other hand, Kamrunnahar, wife of Chunnu told, it was prearranged and conspiratorial.
One arrested from Chitalmari along with Yaba
 Police of Chitalmari PS arrested a young man along wit 10 pieces Yaba from Charkunia area under Chitalmari Upazila in Bagerhat district on Saturday at night, according to a report received here. The arrestee is Kamrul Shaikh (38), son of one late Noab Ali Shaikh of village Charkunia of the Upazila. Anukul Sarkar, O/C, Chitalmari PS told, acting on secret information a police squad led by ASI Ahad raided the village Charkunia on Saturday at the night and arrested Kamrul Shaikh from there and recovered 10 pieces of Yaba were recovered from his possession. In this connection a case was lodged with Chitalmari PS under Narcotics Act and the accused person was sent to jail hajat on Saturday through the court.
200 flood victims get relief in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: A total of 200 flood affected families of Kamarjani and Mollarchar unions under Sadar upazila of the district got relief materials on Friday. The relief materials were distributed among the flood victims by Network for Universal Services and Rural Advancement (NUSRA), a voluntary non-government organization with the financial support of North American Bangladeshi Islamic Community (NABIC), USA. A simple relief distribution function was held on the premises of Kamarjani Govt. Primary School from where the packages of relief materials were distributed to the beneficiaries. Each of the beneficiaries received 10 Kgs of rice, a litre of edible oil, a kg of pulse, a kg of muri, two-litres of water, a packet of biscuit, 6 packets of oral saline and four kgs of potato. NUSRA representative Jahid Hossain Suza, journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman, social worker Saddam Hossain Paban and local elite were present on the occasion, reports BSS.
2 held with Indian fake currency in C’nawabganj
CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Police arrested two persons with Indian fake currency of RS 3 lakh raiding in Shingnagar frontier area under Shibganj upazila of the district on Friday night. The arrested persons are Shawkat Ali, 25 and Sumon Ali, 23, of Thutapara village of the upazila. Police said acting on a tip-off, a team of Shibganj Police Station raided in the area around 6:45 pm and arrested them with the Indian fake notes. A case was filed with Shibganj Thana in this connection, reports BSS.
2 held with 20 maunds of jatka in Shariatpur
SHARIATPUR: Police arrested two fish traders along with 20 maunds of jatka ((hilsa fish less than 10 inches long) from Tiloi Bottola in Damudya upazila early Saturday. The arrestee are-Obaidur Rahman, 40, resident of Char Bhoyra village and Majibur Rahman, 42, a resident of Jalalpur village. Khandaker Khairul Hasan, senior assistant superintendent of (Gosairhat Circle) police said a team of police conducted a drive around 4:45am and arrested the two traders along with the jatlka, reports UNB.
