Swechhchasebok League leader held in Jhenidah
JHENIDAH: Members of Narcotic Control Department arrested Kaliganj upazila Swechchasebok League president along with 96 pieces of Yaba tablets and a bottle of phensidyl from its office on Monday afternoon. The arrestee was Bazlur Rashid Nannu, 46, son of Toffazzal Hossain, a resident of Foyla village of the upazila. Rasel Ali, inspector of the department, said that on secret information a team of the department conducted a drive in the party office of Kaliganj upazila Swechchasebok League and arrested Bazlur along with the Yaba and Phensidyl, reports UNB.
10 shops gutted in Satkhira
SATKHIRA: At least 10 shops were gutted as a fire broke out at Kumira Bazar in Patkelghata upazila yesterday morning. Molla Jakir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Patkelghata Police Station, said that the fire originated at a grocery shop from an electric short circuit around 9:30 am and engulfed the adjoining ten shops.On information, a fire fighting team rushed in and doused the fire. The affected businessmen claimed that the loss of the fire was estimated Tk 10 lakh, reports UNB.
Income Tax Fair inaugurated in Saidpur

A two-day long Income Tax Fair has been inaugurated at the city center of Saidpur , a commercial hub of Nilphamari on Monday . Upazila Chairman Moksedul Momin inaugurated the Fair. Assistant Tax commissioner Shamsul Alam presided over the function. Additional Tax Commissioner of Rangpur Tax Zone Monwar Ahmed, Saidpur UNO Bazlur Rashid, Saidpur Banik Samity President Idris Ali, Vice President of Nilphamari Chamber of Commerce Md. Mostafa, Taxes Bar President Saiful Islam and others were present in the programme. Dr. Sheikh Nazrul Islam, Dr. Khairul Bashar and acting President of the Municipal Awami League Rafiqul Islam Babu spoke at the inauguration ceremony, says a press release.
‘Robber gang leader’ held in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested a suspected robber along with three foreign pistols and 15 bullets from char area in Fulchhari upazila on Saturday night. Based on secrete information that a gang of bandits, led by its leader Rezaul Karim, were taking preparation to commit robbery in the char areas, a Rab team conducted a drive there, said deputy company commander of Rab-13 Habibur Rahman. However, sensing the presence of the elite force members, the robbers fled the scene firing bullets towards the law enforcers, Habibur added. Following this, Rab personnel chased the robber gang and arrested the mastermind Rezaul Karim along with three pistols and 15 bullets. Rezaul was wanted in 22 cases, including murder and robbery, with different police stations, reports UNB.
2 held with arms at Benapole
BENAPOLE: Police here arrested two alleged arm smugglers along with a firearm and five rounds of bullets from Dighirpar village of the municipality, recently. The arrestees are – Jasim Sardar, 25, son of Wazed Ali from Sirajkathi village in Jessore and Masud Reza, 27, son of A Salam from Jugnipasha village in Khulna. Being tipped off, a team of police conducted a drive at the Eidgah field of the village and arrested the duo with firearm and bullets, said officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Benapole Port Police Station Firoz Uddin, reports UNB.
