BPL ticket sale rumour enrage fans in Sylhet

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had already announced via a media release that BPL tickets will go on sale at Sylhet from October 31. Tickets will be available in three UCB Branches at Sylhet suburb. However rumour spread that BPL tickets will be on sale today on 30th December after a local print and online portal mistakenly posted the wrong dates. Crowds gathered inside the UCB branches as people demanded for their tickets. Verbal altercation took place as the crowd justified their presence. Bank officials tried to communicate to the protesting fans that tickets have not been provided for sale. The main gates of the banks were enclosed for a while as crowd got animated. People had come from across town and were understandably irritated by the unavailability of the tickets. There was police presence at the branches however there was no news of physical violence taking place.
BCL men beat up ‘Shibir leader’ at RU

Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student wing of the ruling Awami League, on Monday noon beat up a leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamat-e-islami at Rajshahi University severely, and handed over him to police. The injured leader, Ariful Islam, is a masters’ student of RU linguistic (persian) department. He was the general secretary of RU shibir Shahid Shohrawardi Hall unit, BCL men claimed. Campus and BCL sources said, BCL leaders and activists led by BCL RU unit organizing secretary Sabrun Jamil Susmoy and Chanchal Kumar Orko held Ariful from Shabash Bangladesh ground and took him to room no. 222 at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujubar Rahman where they tortured him for one and half hours critically. Later, the leaders and activists handed over Arfiul to police. However, no member of proctorial body or hall authority was present at the hall during those hours., BCL RU unit organising secretary Chanchal Kumar Orko said, on the information that some Shibir men were holding a meeting at Shabash Bangladesh ground they went there and held Ariful. He claimed that Ariful Islam was the general secretary of shibir’s Shaheed Suhrawardy Hall unit. Professor Asraf Uz Zaman, provost of RU Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibor Rahman hall said that the matter was the BCL internal matter and he asked them to solve the matter outside of the hall.
Community Policing Day observed in Gafargaon

The Community Policing Day was observed at Gafargaon and Pagla Thana on Saturday morning. To celebrate the Day a rally was brought out from Thana premises on Saturday morning and paraded Gafargaon main roads . After the rally , a discussion meeting was held at Thana premises. President of Communizing Policing UP chairman Nazmul Haque Dhali was in the chair. Deputy Inspector Md Sumon Mea conducted the meeting. Principal Prof Md Amir Hussain of Gafargaon Government College , UNO Dr Shamim Rahman and OC A k M Mahbub Alam addressed the discussion meeting . AL Leader Matiur Rahman Babul, Principal Ataur Rahman , OC (Investigation) Murshedul Hasan Khan, UP chairman Shamsul Alam Khokon delivered their speeches in the discussion meeting. On the other hand, Pagla Thana brought out a rally and a discussion meeting was held at thana premises.

Schoolboy ‘kills self’ in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: A schoolboy allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence at Khanpur village in Bagha upazila here on Monday. The deceased was identified as Shohan, a JSC examinee and son of Ashraf Ali, a rickshaw puller of the village. Shohan’s mother Rashida Begum said she scolded Shohan in the morning for playing mobile games skipping study for the upcoming exam. Later, she went to a neighbour’s house and when returned she found him hanging from the ceiling.
Shohan was rushed to the Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, she added.
Necessary steps would be taken after investigation, said Officer-in-Charge of Bagha Police Station Rezaul Karim, reports UNB.
