Community policing rally held in Sylhet Sylhet South Surma police station organized a procession of community policing in the city on Sunday. The community policing rally 2017, organized by Sylhet South Surma Police Station, was held on Sunday at the police station. Sylhet Metropolitan Police ommissioner Golam Kibria attended the ceremony as the chief guest while South Zone DC Basudeb Bonik, South Surma Upazila Chairman Abu Zahid and South Surma Upazila Nirbahi Officer were present as special guests. Presided over by Shahed Mostafa, the function was also addressed by freedom fighter Saiful Alam, President of Community Policing Committee South Surma Police Station, Sylhet. Prior to starting community policing, police commissioner Golam Kibria launched a colorful rally by flying balloons. The rally started from the Thana compound and ended at Chanipul Point and again at the police station. After this, members of the community policing of the police station, freedom fighters, civil society people, different clubs, professional organizations, business leaders, transport owners’ association, workers leaders and many Awami League leaders participated in the rally.
Hindu Kalyan Trust arranges orientation course

Hindu Kalyan Trust under the Ministry of Religious Affairs organised a three- day orientation course function with purohit and Religious Leaders held at Local Shideshhsari Kalibari Complex in the town on Thursday noon. Acting Deputy Commissioner Torafder Md. Akhter Jamil attended as chief guest while Hindu Kallan trusti Lipu Roy in the chair. It was addressed among others by Sadar UNO Abdullah-al-Masud, Hindu Kallan Trusti Senior Advocat Dholon Bhowmik, Anil Chandra Pondith, Manik Ronjon Dey, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito, District Press Club President Mostafa Kamal, Religious Secretary of District Awami League Shamsul Amin Khan Sahmeem, Josodal U.P Chairman Imtiaj Uddin Rajon, Shideshshari Kali Bari Secretary Raton Lal Sarker, Chatra League District Secretary Ashraf Ali and Hindu Kallan Trust Assistant Director Pinky Pall.
Cheque distribution programme held

Youth crushed by running train in Chandpur
CHANDPUR: A young man was killed as he was hit full-on by a running train at Bakila area in Hajiganj upazila of the district on Wednesday afternoon.The deceased was identified as Arif Hossain, 35, son of Toyob Ali, a resident of Naohata village in Hajiganj upazila.The accident took place when the Chittagong-bound Sagorika express train coming from Chadpur hit Arif while he was crossing the rail line, leaving him dead on the spot, said Md Afzal Hossain, Additional Police Super of Chandpur. Although Golam Mostafa, Chairman of Kalacho Dakshin Union Parishad, said Arif was suffering from mental health issues, reports UNB.
