One killed as train hits in BAU Rly crossing

 Sharif, 12 was killed as train hits at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) level Crossing in Mymensingh on Sunday . He is an employee of Medina Hotel in the Jabbarer Crossing of the university. Eyewitness sources said that, on Sunday evening, while crossing the level crossing , a Dhaka-bound Teesta Express train hit him. He was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Doctor on duty declared him dead. The deceased was a resident of Sutiyakhali village.
2 suspected robbers held in M’bazar
MOULVIBAZAR: A team of police in a drive arrested two alleged robbers along with a pipe gun and three rounds of bullets from Sreepur village in Kamalganj upazila of the district on Monday. The arrestees were identified as Abdul Malek, 27, son of Abul Mia of Sreepur village and Yasin Ali alias Kala Babul, 40, son of Mortuj Ali of Choutannaganj village of Kamalganj upazila. Shyamal Banik, officer-in-charge of Rajnagar Police Station, said being informed that a gang of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, a team of police conducted a drive and arrested them along with a pipe gun and three rounds of bullets. However, their other associates managed to flee the scene. Several robbery and arms cases were filed against the arrestees with different police stations in the district, the OC added, reports UNB.
Female UP member held with Yaba in Jessore
MAGURA: Detectives arrested a female member of Ward No 3 in Babukhali union of Mohammadpur upazila along with 175 pieces of Yaba tablets on Monday afternoon. The arrestee was identified as Shayamoli Khatun, 40. Being tipped off, a team of Detective Branch (DB) of police challenged Shayamoli and recovered the Yaba tablets searching her bag, said Tariqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur Police Station. The DB team also recovered fake seal, pad and fake papers from her bag, said the OC. Two cases were filed in this connection, reports UNB.
Fake doctor, assistant held in Chandpur
CHANDPUR: Police arrested an alleged fake doctor and his assistant from a medical centre in Hajiganj upazila headquarters on Monday afternoon. The arrestees were identified as M S Zaman Chowdhury, 50, a resident of Bajapti village under Haimchar upazila and his assistant Imrul Hossain Patwary, 25, a resident of Hanarchar village under Chandpur sadar upazila. On secret information, a team of police conducted a raid at Islamia Modern Hospital and Private Limited Centre in the afternoon and arrested Zaman and his assistant Imrul, said Jabedul Islam, officer-in-charge of Hajiganj Police Station. Zaman had long been practicing at the medical centre using fake certificate and nameplate, said the OC, reports UNB.
Husband to die for killing wife in Khulna
Khulna: A court here yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife on February 2 in 2016. Khulna Session and Metropolitan Judge Arup Kumar Gowsami pronounced the verdict in presence of accused, Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Kamrul Islam Zoarder confirmed. The convict is Md Monir Howlader, 35, of Moheswarpasha Munsipara area under Daulatpur Police Station in the city. The prosecution story, in brief, is that Monir strangulated his wife Rahima Begum, 24, following a family feud on February 2 in 2016. On the same day, he surrendered before the Metropolitan Magistrate Court by conscience stricken. After hearing his primary confession, reprots BSS.
