May’s office said she and President Donald Trump spoke late Tuesday and both sides agreed their teams would remain in contact ahead of Trump’s decision on the pact.

Gunbattle leaves four dead in Kashmir

Two air force commandos and two suspected rebels were killed during a gunbattle Wednesday in Indian-administered Kashmir, the army said, during an upsurge in violence in the disputed region.
The fighting started when soldiers searching for militants cordoned off a neighbourhood in the northern town of Hajin.
“It was a difficult operation. Two militants were killed in the encounter. unfortunately two air force commandos also died,” a police officer told AFP.

California wildfires death toll rises to 15

Firefighters battling wildfires in California’s wine country face the prospect of new outbreaks when dry, windy conditions return on Wednesday to an area where at least 17 people have been killed and 2,000 homes and businesses destroyed in blazes.
Gusts of up to 50 mph (80 kph) and 10 percent humidity are forecast for later on Wednesday and into Thursday for the region where 17 fires have forced 20,000 people to flee their homes, fire officials said.

EU aims to reopen embassy in Libya

The European Union is seeking to reopen its embassy in Libya pending security conditions, officials said on Tuesday, offering further political support for the Tripoli government struggling to establish control.
EU leaders will announce at their summit in Brussels on Oct. 19-20 that they “encourage work underway to rapidly establish a permanent EU presence in Libya”, according to their draft joint statement seen by Reuters.
