Malaysia has arrested four foreigners and four Malaysians for suspected involvement in terrorist activities linked to Abu Sayyaf, the Islamic State and Jemaah Islamiah, the police said on Saturday.
Among the foreigners arrested were three Filipinos, one of whom is a permanent resident in Malaysia, and an Albanian.
Kyrgyz Deputy PM killed in car crash

Kyrgyzstan’s Deputy Prime Minister Temir Zhumakadyrov was killed Saturday when his car collided with a truck on the highway, the Kyrgyz state press service reported.
The accident happened at a section of the Bishkek-Kara-Balta Highway in Sadovoye village in the northernmost region at around 7:30 a.m. local time (0130 GMT), the report said.
Zhumakadyrov and his assistant were traveling in a Toyota Land Cruiser. The driver of the car and the assistant also died in the accident.
Authorities thwarted planned 2016 attacks on New York

An undercover FBI agent helped thwart a jihadist plot to attack targets including New York’s subway and Times Square, authorities announced in unsealing the charges Friday.
Three people have been charged with involvement in the planned attacks, which were to be carried out in the name of the Islamic State group during the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadan in 2016.
17 insurgents killed in Afghan airstrike

About 17 insurgents have been killed and 10 others wounded after Afghan air force conducted an airstrike in southern province of Uruzgan, the Interior Ministry said Saturday.
“The Afghan air force targeted militants’ hideouts in Barakzai region, Chora district, Uruzgan province on Friday, killing 17 militants and injuring 10 others,” the ministry said in a statement
Amount of Taliban’s weapons and ammunition were also destroyed following the airstrike in the restive province.
