An agri worker was killed as a thunderbolt hit him in Charteki village under Pakundia upazila of Kishoreganj recently . The victim was indentified as Rafiqul Islam (35) son of Md. Abed Ali at Jahangirpur village in Nandail upazila. Locals rushed Rafiq to Pakundia Upazila Health Complex when duty doctor declared him dead. Pakundia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shamsuddin said The New Nation, Rafiq was hit by a lighting strike while he working the paddy field.
Youth killed over gambling
A youth was killed by his friends at Vatia Moralpara in Karimganj upazila of Kishoreganj on recently. The victim was identified as Earshed Miah (28), son of Md. Chand Miah at Vatia village in Karimganj upazila. The body was sent to mourge for autopsy.
Body of UN peacekeeper in Barisal

Manowar Hossain, UN peacekeeper killed by improvised explosive device (IUD) of rebels in Mali of Africa was laid to rest on Sunday night at family graveyard in Chandramohon of Barisal Sadar upazila. A team of 62nd East Bengal Regiment led by Lt. Col. Nahid reached at Chandramohon with the dead body Sunday night. The dead body of the three members of Bangladesh Armed Forces killed by that IUD on September 22, 2017 reached Bangladesh on September 30 afternoon. After receiving the dead bodies their 1st Namaje Zanaja held at Army Headquarter on Sunday morning and then the team of EBR with the dead body of Manowar, a member of that regiment, reached Chandramohon on Sunday night. After giving guard of honour by the members of Armed Forces, the second Namaje Zanaja of Manowar held at the Alishia Zoinpuri Khanka ground. Then dead body of Manowar laid to rest at family graveyard by side of the grave his grandfather after 8:00 PM Sunday night. The death of Manowar spread blanket of sorrows over the area as he was the third victim of unnatural death in his family.
Laxmi Puja celebrated
The hundred years old traditional bazar Known as Laxmir Haat for selling idols of Devi Laxmi and different types of pottery and decoration items, red lotus, banana trees used in Laxmi Puja reached on peak at Barisal Hatkhola Hori Mandir premises.Laxmi Puja, the worship of the Goddess Laxmi, scheduled to be stated on Thursday and ended on early Friday at the night of full moon in almost every houses of the Hindu community in the country. Laxmi is the Goddess of Hindu community for welfare, prosperity, fortune, beauty and grace. The 3-day traditional market started in the city on Tuesday for selling the items like straw-made idol of Devi Laxmi at Tk 500-2500, dice made at Tk 50-200 according to sizes. Laxmir Shora ( pot-cover painted with picture of Laxmi) at Tk 50-200, Laxmir Nabo Ghot ( colored pot of Laxmi) at Tk 30-40, Jol Ghot at Tk 10-25, Pilsuj( lamp stand) at Tk. 10-25, Prodip( oil-lamp) at Tk 10-20 per piece. The items for Alpona (drawing and painting for decorating floor) and Jhulon (hanging decoration pieces) at different prices from Tk 30-150. Sellers of these traditional items said they came from Neamoti, Kalaskati, Kumarkhali, Bakerganj, Char Aicha, Madhavpasha, of Barisal, Sadar of Jalakathi and Failpara of Shariatpur districts with their products manufactured at home or potters. Bula Rani and Guru Das Paul, traders of the items came from Failpara and Neamoti at the hut said although business margin was not so lucrative, but we made those as part of our family traditional business and as part of our community faith to gain some blessings from the Goddess Laxmi.
Man crushed under bus in Habiganj

A man was crushed under a bus on Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Bhanudeb village in Nabiganj upazila of Habiganj district under Sylhet division on Monday morning. The deceased was identified as Motai Miah, 55, a resident of the village. Abdur Rahman, in-charge of Goplar Bazar Police Investigation Camp, said that the Sylhet-bound Sagorika Paribahan bus hit him while he was crossing the highway beside his house around 10:00 am, leaving him dead on the man.
Later, the angry villagers blocked the highway for one and half hour which halted vehicular movement. On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
5 shops fined in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: The regional office of Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI) fined a total of 15 shop-owners Taka 72,500 for selling and manufacturing adulterated food items in last month in the region. BSTI in association with respective district administration conducted 19 mobile courts and found selling of substandard and unhygienic food items violating BSTI rules and regulations. The court also realized Taka 72,500 from the shop owners during the drive.
Altab Hossain, Director of BSTI, said the regional office has stepped up its drives against the manufacturer of substandard and adulterated food items, adding such drives will continue in the days to come for the greater interest of the people. The BSTI regional office also conducted 25 surveillance/squad drives for prevention of pilferage in weight and measurement and using of formalin in fruit and fish, the official added, reports BSS.
