A two day long training workshop on “Enhancement of competence and awareness of the professional drivers” to prevent road accident was held at auditorium of zila parishad in Chapainawabganj town. Bangladesh Road Transport Authority-BRTA organised the workshop on Tuesday and concluded it on Wednesday. Abu Hayat Mohammad Rahmatullah, Additional District Magistrate of Chapainawabganj inaugurated the workshop as chief guest. Dr. Asit Kumar Sarkar, Alamgir Hossain, assistant director of department of Narcotics Control, Ataul Al Koraishi, Town Inspector of police, Swadesh Kumar Das, assistant director of Chapainawabganj BRTA, its vehicle inspector Foysal Hasan, , among others spoke at the programme. Chief Guest of the programme Abu Hayat Mohammad Rahmatullah, Additional District Magistrate said, the accident could be happened if the drivers ply buses without fitness license, ignore traffic sign and signal and using mobile phone during plying buses or trucks. If drivers take liquor and unskilled drivers ply bus or truck, accident could be happen. A driver will be aware about driving, he said.He emphasised the safe driving and increasing professional skill of drivers. A total of 88 drivers of truck and bus participated in the workshop.
Narail Zila Parishad chairman sent to jail in graft case

Sohrab Hossain Biswas, chairman, Narail Zila Parishad, surrendered to the court on Monday. A court in Jessore has given imprisonments for several years to Sohrab Hossain Biswas, chairman, Narail Zila Parishad, Jahangir Biswas, mayor, Narail Municipality and five others in a graft case filed by Wazed Ali Biswas, assistant director, Anti Corruption Commission, Jessore on August 7,2008. The zila parishad chairman was sent to Jessore Central Jail by the court as he surrendered to the court, court sources said. Mostafa Humayun Kabir, attorney of the convicted while surrendering the court, told that the zila parishad chairman was sent to the jail. Nitai Chandra Saha, Special Judge, Jessore, in the verdict handed down, seven years of imprisonments each to Sohrab Hossain Biswas, chairman, Narail Zila Parishad and also former joint general secretary, Narail district unit Awami League, Jahangir Biswas, mayor Narail Municipality, who is also organizing secretary of district unit Awami League and Sharful Alam Litu, Mushfiqur Rahman, Ahmad Ali Khan, Rafiqul Islam and Telayet Hossain, former ward commissioners of the municipality. The court also fined Tk 1 lakh 96,000 to the convicted. The verdict was pronounced in absence of the Zila Parishad chairman while the others were present.
Body of abducted business man found in Kurigram

The dead body of a business man Zohurul Islam after three days of abduction was recovered from the rented house of his van puller at Satanipara area under Nageswari upazila in Kurigram at 11.30 pm on Sunday. Police recovered the body according to confessional statement of the Van puller. He was killed wrapping rope in his neck. Poison may be mixed with food which feed him, police suspected. The business man was missing on Friday last. His used motor bike was found in road side near Jhora bridge area under Nageswari municipality area. Later police arrested the van puller Jahangir 30 and his grand mother-in-law Sapea Bewa 60 for interrogation. Police sources said Johurul Islam 35 son of late Moynuddin of village Ashar mor under Nageswari municipality area lived in a rented house adjacent his own house.
