Lightning strike kills youth in C’nawabganj

A young man was killed by a lightning strike at Adampur village in Bholahat upazila on Monday evening. The deceased was identified as Jhatu,38, son of Jamsed Ali, a resident of the village.Witnesses said a streak of thunderbolt struck Jhatu while he was working in his yard at about 6:30 pm, leaving him dead on the spot.
Businessman’s house looted in Jhenidah

Robbers looted valuables worth Tk 6 lakh from a businessman’s house at Tiordah village in the city on early Monday. Ali Miah, the house owner, said a gang of armed robbers of 7-8 members stormed his house at midnight and held the house inmates hostage at gunpoint.Later they looted valuables, including Tk60,000, jewellries, gold ornaments , four mobile phone sets and decamped with the booty. Shafikur Rahman, in-charge of Hatgopalpur Police Station, confirmed the incident saying he visited the spot.
View exchange meet on healthcare held in Rangpur

Speakers at a views exchange meeting emphasised the need for proper health management system in order to ensure healthcare facilities for the ultra-poor people at village and grassroots levels recently. They also called for making upazila and community level hospitals effective, along with formulating a health policy so that the extreme poor people can get adequate healthcare facilities. Advocacy for Social Change of Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC) organised the daylong meeting under its challenging the Frontiers Poverty Reduction- Targeting the Ultra Poor (CFPR-TUP) Project at District Civil Surgeon Office auditorium in Rangpur city recently. Deputy Director of the Department of Health, Rangpur division Dr. Shawkat Ali addressed the meeting as Chief Guest while Deputy Director of Family Planning, Rangpur Division, Dr. Md. Shafiqul Islam, Deputy Director of Social Service Department, Rangpur Nazmun Nahar, Deputy Civil surgeon Rangpur Dr. Abdul Mazid were present as special guests. Civil Surgeon Rangpur Dr. Mozammel Haque presided over the meeting.
2 women electrocuted in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: A woman and her daughter-in-law were electrocuted at South Chapadaha village under Kuptala union of Sadar upazila in the district Wednesday evening.
The victims are Delbanu Begum, 65, wife of Robi Sheikh Bepari, and her daughter in law Manikjan Begum, 40, wife of Delhaque Bepari of the village.Quoting the family source, local union parishad chairman Rafiqul Islam said Delbanu came in contact with a live electric wire while she was working at the backside of the house.In the meantime, her daughter- in- law Manikjan also electrocuted while she tried to rescue her mother- in- law.
