Smuggled goods worth Tk 33 lakh seized in Hili

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in two separate drives seized huge smuggled goods worth Taka 33 lakh from Hili frontiers under Hakimpur upazila in Dinajpur on Friday. According to BGB sources, two special patrol parties of the BGB from Hili Check Post camp conducted separate raids in Hili Rail Station area and Molla Bazaar area and seized the smuggled Indian goods.
The seized good included contraband 76,000 pieces of Bacsin tablets, 74,000 pieces of Practin tablets, 100 bottles of phensidyl, 145 kilogram cumin, 34 pieces of saree and four new bicycles.
Arms, ammo, phensidyl recovered in Chapainawabganj

BGB members seized a pistol, four rounds of bullet, two magazines and 754 bottles of phensidyl in different drives on Sunday night and on Monday. Deputy Director of 9 battalion of BGB in Chapainawabganj Captain Md Mosleh Uddin said, a patrol team of BGB of Sonamasjid BOP was waiting at the mango orchard near Tohakhana under Shibganj Upazila in Chapainawabganj district on Sunday at around 9-30 pm. BGB members saw a man coming there carrying a polythene bag but suddenly he noticed the presence of BGB and fled away leaving the bag. Searching the bag, BGB members found a foreign made pistol, four rounds of bullet and two magazines. They deposited the recovered arms and ammunition with Shibganj thana.
Human chain demanding steps to protect bridge from river erosion

A human chain was formed was formed in front of Kurigram Press Club at noon on Saturday demanding protection of Sonahat Rail bridge from Duhkumer river erosion at Bhurungamari upazila in Kurigram district. The students of various colleges of Bhurungamari upazila took part in the human chain for an hour. Later a demonstration was brought out which paraded main roads of the town.Ariful Islam Jewel, Minarul Islam Ratan,Atukur Rahman Atik and Aminul Islam Suvo spoke among others. It is mentioned that the Sonahat Rail bridge built in the reign of British which is being threatened by erosion of the river Dudkumer.
Discussion meeting on death anniv of Bangabandhu held

A discussion meeting was held at Hatkarai High School field in Nondigram upazila on Monday to mark the 39th death anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and National Mourning Day organised by Vatgram Union Awami League. AL leader Shree Ranjan Kumar Bormann presided over the function while Vatgram union AL president Md Julfikar Ali addressed as the chief guest.
