Bangladeshi killed in Hong Kong road mishap

An expatriate Bangladeshi was killed in a road crash on Eulong Highway in Sinagsu near Hong Kong on August 20, family sources said. The deceased was identified as Abdul Latif, 38, son Late Habibur Rahman of Jatrapur village under Chaugachha upazila in Jessore. Family sources said, that Abdul Latif went to Hong Kong in search of fortune in 2005. He made the family a solvent one through hard labour. He members of the family of the victim have become wordless after hearing the information of the sad demise of Abdul Latif. They now were waiting for the return of the body that was kept at the mortuary of a hospital there. The victim is survived by his mother Saleha Begum, wife Jebunnesa Begum, a son and two daughters.
Cop foils RU Chhatra Moitri’s human chain at RU

Law enforcers dispersed a human chain at Rajshahi University (RU) organised by RU Biplobi Chhatra Moitri on Wednesday as any procession, rally, use of megaphones are banned on campus. On March 3, the university authority, through an emergency syndicate meeting imposed restriction on any types of rally, procession, use of megaphones on campus. Witnesses said, around 11:00am, leaders and activists of RU Biplobi Chhatra Moitri joined at a human chain in front of the university central library in a protest of overall torture and sexual harassment of the country. At the time, the university assistant proctor Prof Sirajul Islam along with law enforcers rushed to the spot and asked to stop human chain which triggered an altercation with leaders and activists of Chhatra Moitri. Assistant proctor, at one stage of altercation, grab the banner of human chain.
School girl killed at Kaliakoir

A girl student was crushed under the wheels of sand loading truck at Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur on Thursday morning. The victim Naznin Akter Maha(14) was a student of Chapair BB High School. She was aughter of Meser Ali at the village Hijal Tali. The headmaster of the institution, Tofazzal Hossain Rana said, Naznin was killed at Balukhola at Hijal Tali on way to come to school at 10am.
Regional confce of Girl Guides held in Barisal

Participants at a day-long sixth regional conference of Bangladesh Girl Guides Association (BGGA) at Barisal Guide House on Friday called for expanding role of girls and empowerment of women in achieving millennium development goal The speakers said special care should be extended to girls for their proper physical, psychological and social development by taking different types of life-skill training for eliminating hunger, poverty and preventing domestic violence, stalking. The guests and participants of the conference lauded the role of Girl Guides in developing women leadership and skill, disaster management, climate adaptation, arts and crafts, social and family welfare, medical assistance and other spheres of life and society to build a developed nation. More than 200 leading Girl Guides from six districts of Barisal division attended in this conference.
