Mobile court seizes rice, 3 detained in Jhenaidah

A mobile court in Jhenaidah seized 200 sacks of government rice from a shop in the town and arrested three persons on Tuesday afternoon. The arrested were the officer in charge of Jhenaidah Sadar food store Jasim Uddin and two employees of a rice selling centre Madhu Enterprises. Sohel Sultan Julker Nayeen, magistrate of the mobile court, also an executive magistrate of the office of the deputy commissioner in Jhenaidah said, they were informed that a rice vendor at Baghajatin road in Jhenaidah town was engaged in selling the government rice that were containing the government seal. He conducted a drive by the mobile court and seized 200 sacks of the government rice from the shop. As per the version of the employees engaged in selling rice, the court detained the officer in charge of Jhenaidah Sadar food store Jasim Uddin and two employees of the shop. They were processing to file case with Jhenaidah police station in this regard. The rapid action battalion personnel helped the mobile court in conducting the drive, the magistrate said.

240 houses brought under power network in Chandpur
CHANDPUR: A total of 240 houses of Noyadd village under Kachua upazila of the district have been brought under the rural electrification network by Chandpur Palli Biddyut Samity-1. Local lawmaker Dr Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir formally inaugurated the new connection line as the chief guest at a function held here on Friday afternoon. Local leaders of Awami League including Abdur Rob Molla, M Babul Mojumder, Upazila Parishad Vice-chairman Adv Heleluddin, Puro Mayor Nazmul Alam Sawpon, Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Chandpur Palli Biddyut Samity-1 Jahangir Alam were present, among others, at the function. Chandpur Palli Biddyut Samity-1 implemented the programme at a cost of Taka 70 lakh, said DGM Jahangir Alam, reports BSS.
BADC procures 2,100 tonnes of Boro seeds in Jamalpur
JAMALPUR: Contract Growers Office (CGO), a wing of Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) procured 2,100 tonnes of Boro seeds in the district this season.
Officials familiar with the procurement tody said 61.68 tonnes of BR-14 variety, 75.28 tonnes of BR-26, 628.84 tonnes of BRRI-28 and 1334.21 tonnes of BRRI-29 seed variety were collected.
CGO has set target to bring 1720 farmers here under Boro cultivation this year.
Deputy Director of CGO Khagendra Chandra Roy said the Boro seeds were collected from 1,713 registered farmers in the district.
He said farmers got Tk 39 for per kg BRRI-28 and Tk 38 for per kg other varieties of Boro seeds.
