Teenage girl commits suicide in Chandpur
CHANDPUR: A teenage girl committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling in her room at Shahebganj village in Faridganj upazila on Sunday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Sonia Akter, 16, daughter of Md Abul Kalam of the village. Md Mobarak Hossain, sub inspector of Faridganj Police Station told UNB that on information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the hanging body of Sonia Akter around 7 pm and sent it to Chandpur General Hospital morgue for autopsy. Sonia might have committed suicide in a huff with her mother, SI added. An unnatural death case was filed with the police station in this connection, reports UNB.
Relief goods distributes among 2,000 flood-hit people
GAIBANDHA: Grameenp hone distributed relief goods among 2000 flood victims of the district in the last few days.The packets of relief materials were distributed here through local office of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), office sources said. The relief materials included 15 kg of rice, 2 kg of lentil, a litre of soya bean oil, a kg of salt, a kg of sugar and a kg of suzi. On the occasion, a function was held in front of Public Library and Club of the town here yesterday with Rezaul Karim Reza, secretary BDRCS, district unit, in the chair. Ataur Rahman Ata, chairman of Zila Parishad and BDRCS, district unit, addressed the function as the chief guest, while mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Zahangir Kabir Milon and area manager of Grameenphone M. Shafiul Alam Sarker were present as the special guests. Assistant director of BDRCS Abdul Karim, senior territory manager of Grameenphone Rezoanul Karim, territory manager Mashiur Rahman Siddique, members of the unit Sarwar Hossain Shahin and Sultana Islam Dolly and local journalists were present, reports BSS.
Snake charmer dies from cobra bite
MAGURA: A snake charmer, who used to rear snakes at his house at Tupi Para village in Sreepur upazila, died from cobra bite on Sunday evening. The deceased’s family members said Rashedul Biswas, 30, son of late Chhaken Biswas, reared snakes in his house for long. He fell seriously sick after his snake bit him on Saturday morning. He was taken to local shamans. He died on way to Faridpur Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) on Sunday as his condition deteriorated, reports BSS.
College girl commits suicide in Jessore
JESSORE: A college student allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at Stadiumpara of the district town on Thursday. The deceased was Liana, 18, daughter of Ashrafuddin Ahmed from Stadiumpara of the town and a student of MM College. Locals found Liana hanging at her residence and took her to Jessore General Hospital where doctors declared her dead, said Sub Inspector of Kotwali Police Station Shahinur Islam Shahin, reports BSS.
10 ‘Shibir men’ held in Satkhira
SATKHIRA: Police in a drive arrested 10 alleged leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir – the student wing of deregistered Jamaat-e-Islami – from a madrasah from Patkelghata in Tala upazila on Friday morning.Tipped off that a group of Shibir activists were holding a secret meeting at Sarulia Al-Amin Fazil Madrasah to plan some subversive activity, a police team conducted the drive there around 10am.Arriving there, the law enforcers arrested 10 Shibir leaders and activists along with 51 leaflets, 21 jihadi books and a laptop, said Molla Zakir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Patkelghata Police Station, reports UNB.
