Chancellor Angela Merkel and other senior German politicians on Sunday dismissed a travel warning for their country issued by Turkey amid persistent tensions between the two nations. Turkey’s Foreign Ministry cited increased right-wing and racist rhetoric before Germany’s Sept. 24 election in the warning it circulated Saturday.
Eight dead in shooting at Texas ‘house party’

At least eight people are dead, including the suspect, after a shooting at a home in Plano, Texas, authorities in North Texas said Sunday night.
The shooting occurred around 8 p.m. in the city less than 20 miles (32.19 kilometers) northeast of Dallas. Plano police spokesman David Tilley said police initially responded to a report of shots fired. When the first officer arrived and went inside the home, the officer confronted the suspected shooter.
Gunmen kill 4 Pak Shiite Muslims

Gunmen have shot and killed four Shiite Muslims in Pakistan in an apparent sectarian attack, police said Monday.
Police officer Mohammad Khan said two other people were wounded in the overnight shooting near Quetta, in the southwestern Baluchistan province. Those killed were members of the Shiite Hazara, a minority group in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Patient kills Red Cross staffer in Afghanistan

A foreign woman working for the International Committee of the Red Cross has been shot and killed by a patient at an orthopedic clinic in northern Afghanistan, provincial official said Monday.
It was not immediately clear if Monday’s attack was politically motivated or related to a personal dispute.
Sher Jan Durani, a spokesman for the provincial police chief, says the shooting took place in the clinic in the city of Mazar-e-Sharif. Durani said two suspects have been arrested.
He did not know the nationality of the victim or the motive for the attack.
