260 get flood relief in Sunamganj

Relief materials were distributed among 260 flood-hit people of Tahirpur Upazila of the Sunamganj district Tuesday. Each people got 5-kg rice, 2-kg potato, one kg onion and one kg salt. Entire cost of the relief materials was provided from Prantik Chatro Sangshed own fund. During the relief distribution, the Leaders organization urged the well-off people of the society, businessmen and different organizations to stand beside the natural disaster like flood hit people of the country. President, Secratary and others members of organazation were present on the occasion.  
Jamaat leader arrested in Khulna
KHULNA: Police yesterday arrested a leader of Jamaat-e-Islami on charge of subversive activities from Dumuria upazila in the district. The arrested was identified as Mowlana Habibur Rahman, son of Md Khowaz Ali, hailing from village Ula under Dumuria upazila in the district. Assistant Superintendent of Ula Mazidia Islamia Madrasa Mowlana Habibur Rahman is the secretary of Dumuria unit Jamaat-e-Islami, confirmed Habil Hossain, officer-in-charge of Dumuria police station. He was accused in three cases, including subversive activities, OC added, reports BSS.
Rajshahi woman badly burnt in petrol attack
RAJSHAHI: A 40-year-old woman is fighting for life at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital after her ‘friend’ allegedly poured petrol and set her on fire for objecting extramarital affairs with her husband. Witnesses said a woman on Thursday night allegedly threw petrol and set Rekha Begum, wife of Kamrul Islam, on fire at 7:30 pm in Dorgapara area in Rajshahi city while she was walking along the bank of the Padma River. Immediately after the incident, the victim jumped off the river to save herself. Later, locals rescued her and sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where she was wailing with 80 percent burns. The incident took place after Rekha reportedly objected her husband’s extramarital relationship with her friend Ferdousi Khatun, said Nowshad Ali, brother of the victim. RMCH burn unit doctor Afroza Najnin said, “Rekha suffered 80 percent burns. Her condition is very critical. She needs better treatment in Dhaka.” Meanwhile, police detained Ferdousi as per victim’s statement, said Aman Ullah, officer-in-charge of Boalia Model Police Station. Ferdousi, however, denied her involvement in the incident during police interrogation, the OC added. A case will be filed in this connection, he also said, reports UNB.
Physiotherapy reduces non-communicable disease risks
RANGPUR: Physiotherapists at a seminar cum views-sharing meeting here yesterday said physiotherapy and physical exercise could effectively reduce the risks of non-communicable diseases and assist in leading healthier life. They said physiotherapists implement rehabilitative programmes to improve or restore human motor functions, maximise movement ability, relieve pain syndromes and treat or prevent physical challenges associated with injuries, diseases and other impairments. They made these observations at the event organised by Rangpur divisional unit of Bangladesh Physiotherapy Association (BPA) at Rangpur Press Club (RPC) auditorium in observance of the World Physiotherapy Day- 2017. The day was observed with the theme of ‘Physical Activity for Life’ to create mass public awareness about importance of physiotherapy for leading healthier life. Members of divisional unit of BPA, physiotherapists and local journalists participated in the programmes presided over by Vice-president of RPC Rafikul Islam Sarker. Vice-president of divisional unit of BPA Dr Saiful Islam narrated about importance of physiotherapy and activities of BPA that tries to achieve legal rights and professional dignity of Bangladeshi physiotherapists for serving the people, reports BSS.
President of divisional unit of BPA Dr Tashiqul Islam Sohag delivered presentation narrating objectives of arranging the events in observance of the day with media persons for creating social awareness about physiotherapy and its benefits.
General Secretary of RPC Rashid Babu, Physiotherapy specialists Dr Sonia Rokhsana, Dr Zubayed Karim and Dr Mostafizur Rahman also spoke.
Dr Sohag called upon the journalists for creating awareness about importance and benefits of physiotherapy and physical exercise to prevent deadly non-communicable diseases and recover from those to lead better life.
